" I booked under voucher number EU22038153-1, for which I paid €336.62. The rental vehicle was fully insured and included winter equipment. Upon picking up the car, I encountered an issue with my credit card. Despite having successfully used the same credit card for my previous rental (HERTZ K8843127284, 09.06.2024), the rental agency refused to accept it. Since my friend, who was traveling with me, had used her credit card for the reservation, we were forced to add an additional driver solely due to the credit card requirement. This was despite the fact that my friend did not drive the vehicle at all. As a result, Hertz applied additional charges that were significantly higher than those specified in our original voucher. They also charged us separately for winter equipment and a vehicle service fee, even though these were already included in our initial booking. Ultimately, I was charged an additional €217.84, bringing the total cost to €554.46 for a 13-day rental of a small car Fiat 500. For this amount, I previously rented a significantly better car from Hertz for 16 days, with full insurance, no winter equipment charges, and no credit card hold, during my trip to Sicily in June 2024. " It took us nearly 3 hours to get the car. There were issues with the payment terminal for the deposit and we tried tens and tens of times to pay but without success. We tried to use the same card in ATM, and it worked so no issues with the card, also called the issuer bank. We did not see any help or assitance from Hertz employee. We suggested different alternatives: eg cash, or bank transfer or changing the name or using someone's card but there was no interest in solving the problem from their side, so we essentially wasted half of the day for this matter. At some point, we already considered taking the same car again directly from Hertz and paying double, which is absurd solution but there was no other good one, so not happy at all with the process. "

Then on that same night when they rejected us we went to AVIS AND MAGGIORE who have both the same credit card policies. And let me tell you this. I can say it took a while to verify in the system because it seems that our CREIT CARD FLEX COMPASS is not a usual credit card. But here it was too much: for a car rental of €200 a week on autoeurope they made me pay more than €300 for "Full insurance". I then arrive in Genoa airport and go to Hertz, and the 2 people serving abruptly inform me that my old British driving license is not valid. I explain to them that it is valid accompanied by my passport and that I have been renting cars for 25 years with my driving license up to the present day with no problems. They refused to accept my driving license with considerable rudeness. I then asked the other rental agencies if there was a problem and all the rental agencies accept my old British driving license accompanied by my passport. They even helped me explain this to the people working at the Hertz desk. The Hertz employees said that it is company policy to only accept driving licenses with photo identification even though I explained the differences with the old British driving license. I then checked the internet and all sources confirmed that the old British driving license is accepted in Italy accompanied by the passport. In the past, Italian police have confirmed to me that my driving license is valid provided that it is accompanied by my passport. I then requested that the Hertz employees share with me the written rule that the old British driving license with passport is not acceptable and they were unable to do so but still refused to allow me to continue with the car rental. I am 50 years old and have been driving for 27 years. I have never had any driving offenses nor accidents. I will send attachments in following emails of my driving license details and my rental details via Auto Europe. Following 3 stressful hours in the airport trying to demonstrate that my license is valid, Auto Europe penalised me for not taking the car (95€). " It would have been good to know that herz offers better insurance both terms and costs (super cover) than auto europe (extended insurance). Now I was fooled to pay for the latter one also. In addition our car was severely damaged by a thief during the night just next to our apartment. If we would have only taken the insurance auto europe offers, we would have been forced to pay 1200 - 2000 € even though we had nothing to do with the event. There were many (several dozen) extremely angry people all waiting in the counter area. The Hertz staff person told me that they had over 200 reservations for that period of time with only 100 vehicles available. We waited another hour (2 1/2 hours total) before we received a vehicle. The pre-delivery damage report we were provided showed there was no damage to the vehicle; however, when we actually got to the vehicle there was not one body panel that did not have some reasonably significant damage to it, which required us to track down another Hertz staff member to make note of all of the damage. The ONLY positive part of the experience was the drop-off which went smoothly. I would never rent from Hertz again and we heard the same thing from everyone we spoke to about the Hertz experience. "

" Mixed review. We had a very difficult experience at pick up. We had be assured by AutoEurope and Hertz before hand by phone that snow chains would be included in the rental. Upon pick up, there were no chains provided and the staff became downright militant when we pushed them for how to get chains. No chains were ever provided. To make up for it, they offered us an upgrade. When I declined the Mercedes C class upgrade because luxury cars are not covered by my credit card, they became more angry. They ended up giving us a completely acceptable car, but not the one we were promised. The car was diesel (fine, but they didn't tell us that and we almost put the wrong fuel type in at our first fill up) and most concerning the car was very dinged up. Not a big deal, but they didn't have someone walk with us to inspect the car at pick up, and had we just driven away, when we returned the car we probably would have been held liable for the damages that were already there. We had to find an attendant who then marked up the slip of paper indicating where there was damage to the car. All in all the rental turned out fine. The car was good and the drop off easy. But the issues with the snow chains, not telling us the car was diesel, not clearly indicating where the damages were on the car without us pushing the issue, and no guidance provided on how to return the car made the experience less than perfect. "

" VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. We usually rent from one of the bigger brand names and never had a problem before. This time, the experience was well below what one should expect from Hertz: 1. The pick up at Roma FCO took almost two hours, for every body. This was not busy season, it was an ordinary Tuesday morning at the end of September. Hertz was a mess. 2. The car was a joke: all banged up and the front was taped back onto the car (is that even legal? ridiculously dangerous), and the engine was so old it had trouble taking off in first gear and up hills. The only reason we ended up driving it was that we had been waiting for hours already and needed to go. 3. At return, we could not find a gas station near the airport, so we delivered it two thirds full. Hertz stated they would charge us €60 for the missing 10 litres, which equates to a €17 cost and €43 rip off. We have not received the promised invoice. "

I asked for a credit and was told by both your representative on the phone and in email that it was too late by the agreement. My rental was paid for in full, 125 euro. I received an invoice approving my rental of a Volvo for 10 days for $575. Several days later, I found an email in junk email box advising me that my invoice had been cancelled. I immediately called to find out the reason for the cancellation and was told that I booked through the European website, there fore my reservation was invalid because I am a citizen of the USA. The rep offered to rebook through the "correct website and did so. I got a smaller Renault for $657.30. I think that is what Trump calls unfair and unreasonable trade practices. Given the time constraints, I accepted the lesser car for more money. I am now looking at my Visa bill and find it has two charges, one for $575.33 (I am assuming for the cancelled Volvo) and another charge $657.30 presumably for the Renault. I am in the process of notifying the card company not to pay the $575.33 amount and hereby demand that you issue a credit in that amount to my account. All in all, the process was difficult, and in this instance discriminatory, with no reasonable basis. I also intend to file a complaint with the federal consumer protection agency. If the credit is not forthcoming, I will contact an attorney regarding possible fraudulent conduct. I trust it will not come to that and AutoEuro will do the right thing (which ideally is honor the first quote.) I look forward to you prompt resolution of the over charge. wjk "

We understand that only when we refuel the car ( we get it with 500 km til refuel and when we refuel it was 720 km) in the middle of our way it was a lot of blips, we didn't understand what was that sense something was written on Italian, so we stopped someone that told us that we are out of and blue at the vehicle and we must find gas station that open and sell it, otherwise the car will slow down to 20 km/hr. It was evening and it was only self service and no ad blue. We went till the next morning afraid to drive with the car. At the gas station we paid 12 euro for the ad blue and then he told me it's not our responsibility to fill it because it need to be refill once every 20,000 in ( we drove only 1,200 km) it's the garage responsibility at the term treatments of the car. It was really bad experience, we stacked at the middle of nowhere, didn't understand the bipping, the ad blue. Spending time and money for car treatment. This is not what I ment to do at my vacation with 4 kids!!! "

We are pretty relaxed people and this would not have been too much of a problem but we were going to use this car for the next 7 weeks. The front fender and the side panels were falling off and it wasn't attaching back on no matter how hard the hertz guy tried.. We had to take this one to our accommodation in Lake Como and return the next day to get a different one. We wasted many hours driving back and forth to do this. When we arrived the next morning at 11am as they had told us we were again told to wait another hour for the car to get ready. This would not be too much of a problem but when you are travelling with a 1.5 year old one hour is like 10 years. The payment was made with his credit card with the primary driver Madalina Leta (myself) only because his driving license is suspended. On 12 of june we arrived at the Hertz office in Bari Palaese airport at 12 30 pm. The desk officer didn t want to give us the car because the card credit wasn t on the primary drivers name Without finding any solution and provoking a real problem for my family. My husband wanted to pay the deposit with his credit card and assume all the risks for the car. We spent 5 hours in the airport looking for a solution to find a car because our hotel was at 250 km distance from the Bari airport, solution for a problem we didn't generate. I want to mention that i was with my 2 years baby and my old mother and husband. This situation had a bad impact on our experience with your company at which my husband has a gold card member. We even tried to offer different solutions to solve the problem including: - to pay with cash - to pay with debit card - to pay an extra money for the second driver how we did last time we had rent a car with your company - to transfer the money to a rental car company which accept debit card or cash Considerring the facts above for my family and other people who were in the same situation like us, we believe it is a usual practice of robery used to make money illegally under the umbrella of your company. We rented so many baby seats in our prior rentals but this price really shows their intention to steal our money in that helpless situation. Prior to returning the car, our baby vomitted to the floor, but just next to the stairs, 10 minutes before delivering the car, and Hertz charged us 50 Euro+tax for 'special cleaning' of car. "
