" I am very disappointed that I got hit with a charge for up front fuel service. This was not explained appropriately to me and my wife when at the counter. We were told that we only needed to make sure that we filled up the tank beyond the level in which we received the car, which we did. So, I filled up the tank to 7/8th full which was more than when we received the car. However, we got hit with a charge equivalent to a full tank of fuel. Not right and not fair. Other than that , the care was dirty when received (trash) and also had a large dent in the back quarter panel. That said, other than this fuel issue, the counter person was very helpful especially when we had to upgrade our vehicle to a larger vehicle. I note that the 7 passenger vehicle that we originally rented rented could fit 'just' 7 people but with NO luggage. The website indicates that some luggage is possible as well as the passengers. This may be possible if you JUST had a backpack. Created lots of havoc and stress trying to make it work only to have to change to an upgraded vehicle with the upgrade charge. " I rented a car by your website from Avis on 16/05/2022 to be picked up from Catania City Center on 3 June 2022. The car was to be picked up from Catania downtown office at 10 am. However, I trusted the voucher and went there around 2 pm because on the voucher it says that it would be open until 6 pm. Unfortunately, the Avis office was closed because they were working until 12:30 on Saturdays. However, in the e-mail from you, it was clearly stated that it is open between 14 and 18 on Saturdays. My only mistake was not going at 10 o'clock due to my private affairs. Afterwards, I had to go to the airport office and I made a new reservation from you and picked a new car by paying a difference of about 150 euros, and this car was of a lower brand than the car I was going to rent first. The new voucher is attached (EU19287593-1). On top of that, I was informed that I would pay a fine of 200 euros. It cost me a total of 350 euros and a couple of hours with my kids. The conditions of the AVIS contract were very different in regards to the total sum of payments to what was originally written in the voucher. He further explained that they had no Mercedes Benz available for me to get. I understand that it was not guaranteed that I would get a Mercedes Benz but it is fair to assume that when ordering "a similar class car" that would include a BMW, Audi, Volvo or a car of similar quality and brand. According to the AVIS Italy car guide (https://www.avis.com/en/cars/vehicles/it) the class I was ordering is "Compact Elite" which the Hyundai Kona can in my opinion not be considered to be. The process was ok, but experience was not good - it wasn't bad either, but I'd rather try other company than Avis next time. " Car was reasonably new Fiat Panda with 9,000 km on the clock. I think that this was a class of car below what I booked. I booked "Economy" not "Mini". I didn't complain at the desk as I wanted a reasonably small car anyway. The Panda broke down on 2 occasions. The recovery people got it working again the first time. They guessed that the people in AVIS did not connect the negative lead to the battery correctly and that it was not recharging properly. It broke down again. They came and took the car away and promised to send me a taxi to bring me to Brindisi which was over an hour away from where I was. They left me on the street in the 40 degree heat for over 40 mins, when I eventually gave up messaging them and calling them and found my own taxi. I then had to go to Brindisi airport, collect the car (an Opel Corsa, which I believe is "Economy" class i.e. what I originally booked) and then I had to drive over an hour back to my accommodation. I lost a days' holiday because of them. I am still awaiting the refund for the taxi, but to be fair, I don't think that I should be charged for the week's rental of the Fiat Panda at all. How can I escalate this? "

Please let me explain the situation: I was charged €139 extra after lengthy negotiations at the counter. I arrived at the counter and the car I had 'reserved' and even 'guaranteed', according to my reservation, was no longer available. Instead of saying sorry, the counter salesperson, and subsequently also the manager, tried to upsell me... "We are sorry, your car is no longer available. You can however rent a Mercedes E-Class for example. This is €200 extra per day. Either way, you only have automatic cars left, so any car you choose will be at least €50 extra per day, it will be a fantastic car." I refused and asked for a regular stick shift manual. They said they had none available. After kindly requesting again and again, the manager finally agreed to let me take 'another client's' manual Opel Astra Combi. I had to pay €138 extra. Now this is upselling. I had already agreed to upgrade at the moment of booking via Auto-Europe. I accepted to upgrade from Compact to Economy. Subsequently, I have prepaid to 'guarantee' the car. Obviously, I would pick up the car... I had prepaid the car. However, the counter staff was not sure (?!?) and gave my car to another customer. Me accepting the Opel Astra means that I took another client's car. This subsequent customer was probably 'invited' to upgrade as well. This seems to be a systematic sales tactic. > The original booking was €606.92 for 8 days which I had prepaid. > The proposed upsell of was between €200 extra per day to €50 extra per day for 8 days. This represents a 263.6% to 65.9% increase in price of my original booking. > The ultimate upsell of €17.37 extra per day for 8 days that I was FORCED to accept, represents a 22.7% increase in price of my original booking. I understand the practice of cross-selling and upselling. This should be a CHOICE, however. At AVIS, I was FORCED to accept the upsell as there was no equivalent car available. Not only was I denied my Italian make Fiat Cinquecento 500x that I had upgraded to in my booking and that I had prepaid to 'guarantee' my booking, I was subsequently upsold without choice and on the spot and without any remedy. What is more, I had to smile while being upsold, because the counter staff and the manager basically said either you accept the cheaper upgrade or you opt for a more expensive upgrade. This is not upselling, this is extortion... Therefore, I am an unhappy customer and I cannot recommend using AVIS anymore. "

After that we were forced to leave our car in the parking lot and hope for the best that we will be able to leave Chamonix without accidents. 7. So the 2nd day of our trip we practically threw away. Lost 2 hours for buying, adding chains and driving to our AirBnb. After that we did not have a car that we could use. And hanged on the phone almost all day. It was impossible to reach AVIS Italia by call - the did not answer till the evening. AVIS Lithuania said that they can't help - we should contact AVIS Italia. Around 4PM AVIS Italia answered to our call and told to go to the nearest AVIS office to change a car. Because it was too slippery, we took onother car to go the nearest AVIS office - it was about 30 km ride to one side. There we got only a phone number of AVIS France. During the call we got an answer that it is impossible to switch cars because there are no cars in that region for few weeks. 8. For remaining days we did not use a car because streets in Chamonix we full of snow/ice. 9. Thankfully, last day we managed to drive out of the Chamonix safely driving ~10-15 km/h speed. 10. It was very stressfull for me, the driver, because I was responsible not only for the car, but also for two kids (1 and 6 y/o). 11. Returning the car was ok. But at the returning time I can see additional fee?? added to my credit card. I see a reserved amount for 63,20 Eur. And it is still reserved till today. We returned a car with full tank. We have checks for insuranse payment, chains and fuel. But we're not sure where should we apply for refunding. "

When we dropped off the vehicle we were rushed to complete the process and were not offered a final bill or anything like that. " I rented the car in Rome and Napoli through the AVIS company. They were very different experience. Rome was the best. I do appreciated their service. As I sought for GPS, the staff kindly upgraded the rental car, as BMW minicooper/automatic for safety to drive in Italy, Europe for the first time with the excellent advice, although he asked me to guarantee the higher car-insurance service, as the full cover. In Seoul, South Korea, I am a driver of the minicooper/Gasoline, too. I felt comfortable and friendly. However, in Napoli, as I arrived the Avis rent car about by the closing time of Saturday. Another staff of Napoli Avis wasn't kind and friendly. GPS/Navigation didn't have the equip to attach/set up the car window or etc. Then, when I asked him to upgrade the rental car, he refused as there is no car which can provide with GPS. The no-settingup tool of GPS is only thing that I must use for my driving. Compared to South Korea, Italy's roads don't have the lights. Withtout good distance of the visiblity to drive, I have to drive up to Ravello, with the great fear/concern that GPS would fell down, while driving, I might lose the ways to get there with the narrow-mountain roads. I didn't feel comfortable. Next day, there was a yellow warning of Rainstorms in that region, I was even scared more. The rental Car itself wasn't good/secure. it was old and the break wasn't tighten. On my way back to Napoli airport I followed the direction which my hotel owner had advised. She recommended me to use the seaside roads instead of the mountain roads because of the fogs/invisiblity. On my ways to be down from Ravello-Seaside roads, because of the rain, I was sacred. Before driving it, I attended the holy mass to get to the airport safely. My car was very slow. I got the incident. The opposite road-driver bumped the car. Without saying anything, he/she left. Behind of my car, there was two cars following because of my low-speed driving. I was a bit climing/up-hill road with seaside, and the other was on down-hill. Digitus Dei est hic! He/She(the opposite driver) didn't hit greatly me to fell down from the sea-cliff road. My car speed was slow on the raining day. I was stopped, when he/she bumped me. He left. The car was a bit broken. Unfortunately, I didn't make a reservation with the full insurance. "

Or, after return we would be charged only for the consumed portion. In fact, the tank was not full at pick-up. We noted that with parking staff. They advised to take a photo of it to present later, at time of return. Besides, when returned, we have been still charged for full tank price, even though the tank was just half full. We have argued that with the employee at drop-off place, but he told us that he he was not Avis employee and he was just printing out the invoice and he was not aware on details. We have submitted all those complaints to Avis via their site, but there is no response so far. We have not yet received excess of deposit, nor even any reply. "

" Hired an A3 or similar car model online for 7 days in Rome recently. Car offered was much larger and I felt I did not have a choice as I had 2 luggage but the other car available offered was a Mini Cooper. Terms online should be clearer that full insurance is not covered, larger car extra charges to be bore by us etc. The fuel was charged option was not asked if I had wanted it BEFORE she keyed in the receipt and I felt very stressed and pushed into accepting all the conditions while in your shop. " We paid for Peugeot 3008 or similar (SUV class), but were provided with Renault Megane Grandtour - a different kind of vehicle. AVIS Bologna told that in their system this is one and the same vehicle class. We had to wait for that Megan for around 40 minutes (they told us few times "10 more minutes, guys are washing your car"). Eventually we received the car which was pretty dirty from the outside and looked pretty bad inside - the rear seat was all in stains, brake pads were whistling when stopping etc. What's more, they told this Megan is totally new, however we found a dozen of small scratches all around the car body. Maybe this is some issue of the mentality - people in different parts of the world have different perception of the word "new". Anyway, this was frustrating. Second negative experience with AVIS, so I will not go to any AVIS again. Hertz served much better as well as Autoeurope. We were happy only with the drop-off - it was fast and smooth. "

During this rental there was one small issue - first company I chose didn't confirmed my rental (because of requirement going abroad), I received letter from Autoeurope that car was not confirmed (it was for some reason in German language so I had to translate it), but when I logged in to autoeurope website I saw that my voucher is confirmed. So there was a mistake done somewhere in the process. Later this issue was solved and your consultant helped my to find other company which approved going abroad. "
" Pickup process was smooth, car was good and clean, Avis Reantal place is near the Bologna airport which is good because some other rental companies are far from airport. During drop off guy working there found one scratch which was unknown for him, but as I took pictures of a car before driving I showed him these pictures on my camera, he saw that scratch was already there and didn't have any other complaints and was very polite. So always take pictures of your car from all angles before driving, this might be very helpful when returning a car. "

My partner didn't have license so they said it's not possible for him to rent the car either. It was literally written credit card Mastercard on my card. We didn't get the car or refund. The car was not clean, the car seat was dirty, the car made loud noises and the tires were not balanced and the thread was low. At check out, I called the number provided by AVIS to call, and it was a call center out of the country. It took us a very long time to find the correct return location. At check out, they wanted to charge us for pre-existing damage to the car, even though we had purchased the forced additional coverage. Thanks to my wife's due diligence to take pictures of all sides of the vehicle, we were able to show that the damages were already there. The staff was very rude throughout the process and I will be disputing the additional charged to my credit card which I was forced to accept in order to continue with my vacation. Overall, my experience with Avis has been disastrous and I would never do business with that company again. "

" We booked a Fiat 500 to pick up from Milano Centrale-Avis (reservation # EU15264593-1/ Avis reservation 34872275DE4). The price was a great deal. About 50 euros for two days. Great! However, on the day of pick-up we had a scheduling issue. I tried calling 4 times the night before the pickup but no one answered. I called 3 times the morning of the rental (about 830AM for a 10AM pickup). Finally someone picked up. When I talked to Avis I told them I could not arrive until about 2-4 hours after my reservation. They told me simply that this was fine but I might not get the car I reserved. When I eventually arrived- about 2 hours after my reservation, they involuntarily upgraded me to a Alfa Romeo Giulia and charged me an extra 38 euros per day!!!!! How could this happen? They did not give me a choice and at one point the woman at the counter scolded me by telling me she gave me a great deal. So instead of about 25 euros per day my rental now cost about 63 euros per day. At the very least Avis should have told me that IF I arrived late and my car was not available I might have to pay more. They DID NOT indicate this. I really feel cheated and abused by the AVIS company. I booked with Auto Europe thinking I would get a great deal and helpful service but in the the future I will think twice about using your service if being two hours late means that my rental will cost me more than double the anticipated price. I have double checked my rental agreement and now where did it say that my car was not guaranteed in the case that I arrived late for pickup. It's all the more discouraging because I did indeed call AVIS Milan Central Railway Station to tell them I might be late. In addition I would like to note that that pickup at Milan Central Railway Station is not advisable. There is no signage for the rental agencies anywhere in the station. Finally, you have to walk to the garage where the car is. The garage is not convenient especially for someone with limited mobility. It is far away. As far as we could tell the only way in to the garage is on a narrow steep ramp used by cars and pedestrians. Normally this is not allowed as it is too dangerous. What an un-enjoyable experience. I would like for a full refund of the excess amount charged by Avis Milan and I would like you to change your policy to tell reservation holders what could happen in the case of a late arrival and in the case of a pre-announced late arrival. "

We booked that specific car for a higher price than other similar cars; but when we arrived there, we were given a Fiat 500L with a high mileage and with dents instead, as they argued that it is similar to the Volkswagen T-Roc. The T-Roc is a bigger car and more spacious than the Fiat 500L. If we wanted to rent a Fiat 500L, we could have paid minimum of Eur50 less from other rental companies as all of them offered the 500L. And bought insurance is not visible to the rental company, resulting in awkward conversation at Avis about "we see you have no insurance at all, would you like to buy this now" Different cars (even with same rental company) have different available insurance packages (some have 2, some have 3 options). I still don't know if the most expensive insurance that I bought from the website (Refundable Excess with Super Cover) will refund the damages fee of a tent that AVIS found at the return (and which was surely there before i picked up the car). Also, having customer service available 4 hours a day. Really? In summary, I might use AutoEurope again in the future, but it will not be my first or second choice. "

" The rental price I paid in Auto Europe website is not the finnal cost, when I arrived Avis in Rome Fumicino Airport, they forced me to pay extra 500€ including sort of insurance and other services, because we have already paid 366€ to Auto Europe and we could not get our money back, the only thing we can do is to pay more as they offered. At the beginning they offer us a BMW, but when we find the car, it was taken by another customer, they had been offered the same car with us, but because they arrived earlier, so we have to let them go first and we came back to find a staff to change another one. The worst thing is, I have paid Auto Europe 366€ online, however Avis told me they only received 318€ from Auto Europe, and the rest 48€ is the service charge from Auto Europe. Please advise if this is true or not, because I doubt if you charge this high rate of service charges, will people still book from your website???? Please kindly reply me , thank you! "
