Europcar makes two claim about the car (Kia Niro EV or similar) which you can verify: - The car has a range of 455 kilometers, and - At the time of pickup. A consumer would understand that "charged" means fully charged, not 5% or 50%. Counting on a range of 455 km, it seemed more than sufficient for a trip of 335 kilometers, especially since I planned not to use heating or air conditioning and I don't drive fast (factors that decrease range). Upon arriving to pick up the vehicle, I was informed that the car I had selected only had a range of about 320 kilometers, which is insufficient for the trip I had planned. The alternative offered to me a Tesla and pay an extra €77. There was no way to cancel the reservation and recover the €107 I had already paid. So for a one-day rental I had no choice but to pay €184. Europcar needs to remove deceptive claims from their website. "

I went to the rental office in Cadiz, the clerk first got an envelope with keys to an Opel Crossland X, but then turned around and changed it to a Citroen C4 Spacetourer, almost a damn mini-bus on the roads of Andalusia. I tried to talk to him so I can get another car, even in a smaller class. He was not speaking english very well and kept saying he doesn't have another car and that's the only one he has. I accepted that it's going to be an awful 9 days and went to get the mini-bus. There were lots of other Europcar vehicles in the parking lot and above all in front of the Citroen there was the Opel Crossland X. While putting the bags in the trunk and adjusting to the car controls in the parking lot, the Europcar employee came to the parking lot, got into the Opel Crossland X and drove off, as it was closing time for that office. So basically he choose his preffered car and left me struggling with the mini-bus for 9 days and it was awuful parking and driving on some of the narrow roads. So all in all a very bad experience, never again will I rent from Europcar. "

After this I signed the contract ( without reading while I rent a lot from Europcar and I did not expect any tricks), and this sum was blocked from my credit card account. What is even more important, we were cheated by Europcar staff at the counter. While signating the contract, I pointed to that sum and asked what does it mean; the answer at the counter was "that is notnihg, just the deposit". However, the above mentioned sum was charged after car return. I know it is not your fault; however, you should be notified about the situation. We were simply cheated - twice cheated. After returning back home, I submitted a complaint to Europcar via internet form which was refused. It's honestly amazing that anyone from outside of Granada is ever able to find the drop off location based on the information you provide. "

When I asked one of the other 2 to help me, they checked my papers of the reservation and we were told to wait because it was 10:50 and the rental was from 11 o'clock. Never have I seen a service like this before. To receive the car we had to wait another 20 minutes because it wasn't even cleaned out. The real surprise: the car is an old,(57000km) damaged opel, which has bruises on 37 places. (and it was still dirty) On the front side of the car there is a 30x40 cm big injury. Not to mention the wheels' damages. I did not want to take it over but they said that they only can give me that, and if I don't like it I should go back to their office and say my problems there. I was told to take pictures of the car and there will be no problem, because not every damage is written on the paper. Unfortunately I took over the car, but soon the new problems showed out: the inner plastic dashboard rattles, creaking sounds coming from the back of the vehicle. The front axle and the steering linkage knocks. At braking the car tilts and the steer draws left. This vehicle is technically unfit for driving. We called the office but they said that they only can do something if we take the car back to a Europecar office, but we did not want to ruin our vacation and waste time with this. We hand the car down in Madrid where the employee was very kind. They listened our problems and asked us to indicate our problems because there is a constant problem with the office in Sevilla. "

" Many issues with auto europe: 1. Reservation was made for Europcar ar Barcelona Airport , not taking into account, there are two terminals, that are miles apart, and hence also two different Europcar offices. 2. Auto europe was not be able to clarify - at which office I have to get a car. 3. Insurance conditions on the voucher was completely different from the ones that where recorded in the Europcar reservation system. Voucher included Collision Damage Coverage with zero excess, and Coverage for wheels and glass. Europcar reservation record states 1000 Eur excess without tires and glass coverage. In voucher included insurance was the main reason why reservation was made through auto europa. 4. After rental, when the auto glass was broken, I was charged for that. Auto europa doesn't even respond for my support requests to clarify situation, nor to my e-mails! So it's completely logical, that this was my last time I deal with auto europa. "

" We have used AutoEurope many times over the past decade. It is a generally a good experience, but the most frustrating component is not being able to change the currency. The results can often be very different, e.g. unlimited mileage or a fixed amount depending on HKD or EUR. "
" We originally received a blue Volkswagen Polo from Barcelona El Prat airport on October 17th. Despite reminding staff that we had rented the car for 42 days, we noted the car had a lot of dents, smelled like smoke inside, had safety issues with the rear middle seat, and misaligned windscreen wipers. This last defect was only made clear when driving through a rainstorm several days later and not being able to see through the streaks. We decided to take the car into the nearest airport, Bilbao, in order to have them replace the wiper blades so that it would be safe to drive. Instead of that simple job, we were given a replacement grey Volkswagon Polo. We had not expected to be given a completely different car, so had not filled up the petrol tank. Instead, it was 40% full. Europcar staff assured us that this was no problem and they would simply fill the car at the published rate of 1.28/l, with no further penalty/surcharge levied. After driving the second car for a few hours, it became apparent that the driver's seat was broken. It was tilted towards one side and creaked loudly when going around any corners. This would have been uncomfortable but bearable for a very short rental, but not for an entire month. We, therefore, had to waste yet more time from our holiday - and more petrol going to and from our accommodation - to return to Bilbao airport and seek a resolution. This time, pre-warned, we made sure the petrol tank was full before doing so. After yet another frustrating delay to our holiday, a third car, a silver Volkswagon Polo, was provided and we were able to continue our journey, returning the car as scheduled to Barcelona El Prat airport on November 28th without any further incident. As you can understand, after this experience I will certainly hesitate before choosing Europcar in future. We should not have needed 3 cars and we were overcharged - for a full tank instead of just over half - on petrol for a time-consuming situation outside of our control. "

When we loaded the luggages and about to drive, the staff ran to us and said the car has problem and we need to change another car. On the 2nd day, a light signal showing low tire pressure while I'm driving on highway. We contacted the branch in Granada but they said no problem on the tire. However, my wife noticed that there is a big nail on a tire. Then the staff arranged another car for us. If my wife can't see the nail, I think we will simply believe the staff and continue to drive another 4 hours to the destination. How dangerous it is! Another invoice issued as car is changed, no one explained to me why the total price is increased until we return the car at Madrid Atocha train station. I have no idea why it's charged with a "handling fee" for the car change. The deposit cannot be refunded when car return as pending for the inspection of previous car. We also noticed that our contact in email and mailing address are wrong and we already requested the staff to correct it. Today, the bank statement shows approx EUR 270 is charged by your company. However, we still haven't received any email about the inspection result and the final settlement breakdown. I afraid our contact is still not corrected and thus we have no email received. Now, the deposit is still not refunded and with an additional charge of EUR 270. We have no idea about what is charging and how we can claim our travel insurance. We've rented car in some other European countries before and never had such bad experience. Please follow up for us on the inspection result and the related documentation. Also, the breakdown of the settlement. The amount I've paid now is way more than the original booking which is unexpected. "

Rental companies have different hold levels and the difference can be quite significant. In my case, this is very important since the credit card I hold, a Spanish issued card as a 21-day hold. I do not know what these companies think the hold does but it certainly doesn't allow them to access the money in fact, in the case of my card, it removes the amount from being available for 21 days. " Europcar was fantastic. AutoEurope was a joke. Our flight was cancelled within 15 minutes of booking. We called nonstop to your customer service, and were hung up on several times. Eventually our international credit ran out and we emailed. We were told we could only call. We tried again and again eventually being told our reservation would be changed. We were hung up on again so the change never went through. The final time we called the agent tried to charge us 100 euros plus a new booking of 200+ euros just for changing. When we finally received the car we tried to extend the rental and after being hung up on several times again were told AutoEurope would only make a new reservation and we had to go return the car and get a new one. Ridiculous. We called Europcar and within five minutes they changed our reservation. Your agents are rude, incompetent, and just generally useless. You do not care about your customers and put us through hell to make a simple change, which in the end we were not even able to do. I am unbelievably disappointed and will go through Europcar directly next time instead of your agency. What is the point of paying an agency if I am the one forced to do all the work. I will never recommend this company. "

We eventually paid €50 for taxis to and from the station. You need to be much clearer in your information about picks and from offs as this was expensive and we would not have chosen your firm if we had known. "
