" When we called the help desk they provided us with no help whatsoever they only offered to cancel our booking with a penalty of €200. We insisted that our booking should not be cancelled. The next day we again received an email that our booking had been cancelled. We emailed that this should not be done and that we could not understand why no one seems to understand this instruction. The next email confirmed our booking and told us to contact help desk on the 19/07 ie 15 days later! What a service! "
" When we arrived at the Gatwick airport Europecar desk I presented our booking details and gave them my LLoyds Bank credit card - this was refused as it was not issued by a Maltese Bank - even though it showed my Maltese address. I had no idea of this regulation and cannot see the use of it. My home bank is HSBC which is not a 'Maltese' bank either..... My wife gave the clerk her HSBC credit card but the counter clerk refused it. She kept mumbling that "I will not give him a car" over and over again. My wife on seeing how badly I was feeling - I nearly fainted - phoned the Autoeurope help desk and all they suggested was cancelling our booking with a €200 penalty fee - how was that going to help us get a car? My wife repeatedly insisted that our booking should not be cancelled...after over 30 minutes the call was cut off. still desperate to get a car I suggested that Europecar accept my wife's credit card and add me on as a second driver thus incurring an extra fee of around €350.The desk clerk agreed to this and said she will put it down as a requested 'upgrade'. We were in no position to question anything as we were at their mercy and in urgent need of a car. This was nothing short of a SCAM to get us to pay MORE money. We expect a full refund considering the unnecessary hassle we were given by Europecar and the fact that we got no help from Autoeurope. "

The car was clean but hads the following issues: On first entry the car indicated that it needed a service and that the wheels were not aligned correctly. No-one available to discuss if this was a problem. Generally all the MG's I have rented from Europcar have had unreliable electrical systems and frequent error messages. The rear middle seat belt had the clasp in the wrong position so could not be used at first. After consulting with the internet the clasp could be relocated correctly. Car had 2 scratches which were not picked up before handover and then allocated to me. Would be good to have an indication of how large scratches need to be to be noteworthy. Called the customer service hotline and was dealt with in a polite, friendly manner. "

We were faced with one option and that was to upgrade AT A COST of £150 to a Volkswagen Passat Estate which to be fair was more suited to our needs. I feel that given the chance we would have managed with the standard Sportage SUV and not be palmed off with a compact SUV. They did give us the option to have the Sportage later in the day but with kids in tow that was never an option. Allegedly, my son noticed some other client driving off that time in a Sportage. To be fair, the garage staff managed to find a car suited to our needs and Hasan at the front desk reduced the extra cost by some £50. "

The actual price charge me was far greater than that because of some added taxes and fees that the agent did not tell me about. This added deductible coverage for the insurance doubled the price of the rental. The return agent also recorded an incorrect time. I returned the car one day early and they recorded a much later time in the time that I returned it. Europcar did not. Charge me for three days, but charged me for four days even though I returned it one day early. Most US companies will charge for the amount of time that you keep the car not the time that you reserve the car. Our flight was late and so I picked up the car late but they charged me for the time that was reserved. the agent was very nice but the procedure was deceptive. I've rented cars in Europe many times, and this was the worst experience. "

" Dear Sir/Madam, Regarding my voucherEU16701224 and my experience with autoeurope, words can hardly express the awful experience I had. My flight was delayed for over 1 hour which stopped me from arriving at the Europecar counter on time to pick up the car. I arrived at 3am but the counter was already closed. I waited until 5.30 am so that I could pick up the car. When the counter opened, the person ( I won't call her lady, she is not worth of this name) informed me that my reservation had expired and that I lost all my rights to pick up the car and that they had no longer the type of car that I had rented. I believe that, having already paid for the car, the vehicule should be at my disposal for the time – i insist – that was already paid for. The person was irreducible and said we could not pick up the car with that voucher. I tried to argue that the flight was late and we could not have picked it up before: I even provided the flight number on my reservation so it was easy to confirm. The alternative I was provided, in order to have access to a car, was a so called upgrade: instead of a Seat Alhambra type of vehicle, I could get a Discovery paying an extra of 40 pounds per day (plus VAT). As I absolutely needed the car, had not been to sleep and had to go to a very importante meeting which was the sole purpose of my trip to the UK and the rental, I accepted those therms and made the payment. If not, I could not - as the person said – get any vehicle and the payment I had done would have been for nothing. Not only was the car smaller, I had to pay extra for it. I'm completely outraged by the actions of Europecar ! I was not responsible for the delay of the flight. Europecar had all the necessary information to confirm the flight and it's delay. And the information that the car that I requested and had already payed was no longer available made this into a truly horror experience. I request you get in touch with europecar in order to recieve full refund on the payment that I made. "

" I would like to share my 'experience' with you indeed. On August 1st my sister and I arrived at your Gatwick office to collect a car we had hired several hours previously. A road closure in Spain meant we missed our original flight (and lost a Europcar booking at Luton) we managed to get emergency seats with Norwegian into Gatwick. The reason for our journey was to attend the funeral of our father, and I was to lead the service. During our flight to the UK various strings had been pulled and the funeral was moved by 3 hours, nevertheless time was critical, we had to drive to Beccles in Suffolk from Gatwick. You had a 'Customer Care' person wandering around making pompous statements thanking people for choosing Europcar. I think there were 32 people in the queue and the average transaction time was around 10 minutes. I asked your 'customer care' person if we could be served at your Priority desk or just served next we explained the situation and my sister even showed him an order of service. His reply was that 'everyone's time is precious' which in normal circumstances would be rude, in this case was also insensitive and frankly disgusting. He then went on to announce to the assembled 32 or so people waiting that 'Some people here say they have a funeral to attend and would like to be served next. What do we think about that?' Apart from the fact that no one is going to answer a stupidly framed question like that, but he chose to disclose our private grief to everyone in the room. I am appalled, disgusted and frankly astonished that you employ such ill trained, bad manned, and clearly stupid staff. I then approached the Hertz desk, when we booked hours earlier Hertz showed no availability. The manager had witnessed this 'customer care' experience, I asked if any vehicle was available, he found one in minutes, agreed a massive discount, threw in all the insurance you could think of, and even gave us a tank of fuel. He personally expedited the paperwork and we were in the vehicle in about 10 minutes start to finish. So I will NEVER again use your company, further I will make sure this story gets publicity. It puts you in an awful light and you should be ashamed of yourselves. Yes I do expect a full refund on this booking, and you can also refund the booking we lost at Luton airport, it won't change my view of your company one bit, but it would be the decent thing to do - that and re-train the idiot who was the face of Europcar at Gatwick last week. I had to go to the other car hire companies in the airport to find a car at the last minute. All of which had no issue with the address of my driving license. "

When I said them that I am not willing to pay more than what I paid, they gave me a different category than what I paid, claiming that they do not have 3dr vehicles for the last 3 years. In addition, I forgot an electronic device in the car, I called immediately after leaving (1 hour after delivery) and several times after that. They told me that they will call back, but they never did. By far the worst experience I had with a rental car. "

" I am very unhappy with this rental experience and have mailed Europcar customer support directly but they have not come back yet. In any case: The car I got completely scrapped, at low speed rumbling sound and at higher speeds a whistling tome (equal on all kind of asphalt) probably one or more wheel bearings. The tank was only 3/4 full after I had driven 30 km -- too far to return and complain. Pressed to buy insurance I didn't need. The sales person was very "efficient". While I was there another customer returned her car and complained that the agent had "sold" her a navigator she didn't need because the car she had rented already had one. Finally, I had rented a mid-size car with space for two large suitcases, but one suitcase could barely squeeze in into the trunk, the other had to be on the rear seat I have rented from Europcar in Europe several times and always be satisfied and I have been using AUto Europe in some cases before _ I certainly hope this was an isolated mishap. "

" I do not recollect EVER accepting Europcar's insurance when booking the vehicle and am very unhappy with the way things unfolded when I picked up the vehicle. I am going to write to Rick Steves to report this abuse of trust. "
" Two days before I departed from Canada for Glasgow I sent an email to Europcar indicating that I did not want to accept your insurance package. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle at the Glasgow airport I was informed that I had accepted the insurance so that in order to get the deductible to zero I had to pay in excess of £20 per day ; my Visa card would have covered all of the insurance costs if I had been allowed to use it! This was clearly an abuse and a cash grab !! "

My flight having landed, I went to the rental desk to find a long queue and 2 people on the desk one of whom was just dealing with priority customers. After waiting approx 25 mins I spoke to the other desk person to enquire how long i would be waiting, to be told there were only 2 people on the desk. I politely said that this was not my problem to be told nor was it his! I waited in total 45 minutes and there were still about 5/6 people in front of me with a wait time of at least another 45 minutes. At this rate the queueing time was longer than my flight from Europe. I was travelling alone , it was getting late and I needed to be home. Other car rental desks in the rental hall were processing customers quickly, so I went to another desk and got a car within 10 minutes. I was not impressed with the response I received to my customer query from the desk agent and I thought the customer service very poor. I travel in and out of Manchester frequently and never have I waited such a long time to collect a car rental. I am therefore requesting a full refund for the vehicle booked with yourselves due to the wait time and poor customer service. I look forward to hearing from you. "

" When I first made the on-line deal for the rental, I was provided by Auto Europe with an Auto Europe Voucher number EU14706012-1 and a Europcar Reservation number 1084280188. A couple of days before the rental start day, I called the branch at Heathrow to confirm the Drop-off location (so as to program my GPS). I was told that my reservation had been cancelled!!! I insisted that I did have a reservation and on further investigation, the not so polite Europcar representative, informed me that Auto Europe had cancelled my reservation at some time and then re-filed a new one with a new Europcar Reservation number, 1084302256, which was valid. I think I should have somehow been informed by this change beforehand, rather than to find out on my own and just by chance. "
" This was the first time Europcar performed poorly in a long time. After finishing with the paperwork rather quickly, we were made to wait for 50 minutes for the car!! It wasn't until we complained at least twice, they decided to do something about it - I overheard a brief discussion between employees saying they didn't have a car available for us!! In the end we were provided with a different car (Vauxhall Insignia) which was a Hatchback and not a Station Wagon, for which the reservation was initially made (Scoda Octavia or similar). Its boot was barely large enough to hold our luggage..., not an easy task to load and unload. The rear passenger seat was barely large enough for two adults and a child on a booster seat - we had to improvise a seating sequence in order to be able to fasten all three seatbelts of the rear passenger seat. The condition of the car was... ok, but a far cry from what I have been used to from Europcar (Tire pressure fault indication intermittently coming on and off - Wiper fluid run out after spraying the windshield once on the first day! - Luggage compartment plastic cover missing, with our luggage being exposed for the duration of the rental to prying eyes). They didn't even bother to provide for the child booster seat requested in the rental agreement until being told to do so. I really do hope this was a one off, bad experience with Europcar. "

" WHAT a poor experience I had! I chose Europcar even if it was more expensive for reliability! Instead i got HUGE que at the desk to get the car, they tried really budly to upgrade me to a larger car (than a VW polo) even if i was just myself but that is usual stuff. The bad experience starts after returning the car. I forgot my glasses in the car and of course they never found them (not to mention the huge delay on replying to my e-mail about my enquiry) AND at the end we end up with a 36 pound charge for a ticket that got send to them! 36 pounds and they did not even call me! They send me 2 letters to a wrong address and an sms!!!!! from which i found out about this charge! EVERYTHING ABOUT THE MONEY. I 'll try another operator next time! "
