" I rented a Ford Focus from Centauro in Madeira from March 16 to 30, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Four days into my rental, the clutch suddenly failed without warning, leaving the car undriveable. Despite more than 25 years of incident-free driving (including other rentals), Centauro insisted it was my fault--even though it appeared to be a normal wear-and-tear issue. They charged me €1,200 plus a €207 towing fee, which I find entirely unjustified given the car's prior history. To make matters worse, I paid €126 at the start for a full tank (supposedly refundable if I returned the vehicle with a full tank), but after the clutch failed, Centauro gave me a replacement car with only half a tank. Then, upon returning that replacement car with a full tank--actually more fuel than I received--they charged me an additional €63. This is the most confusing and unfair fuel policy I've ever encountered. I feel I was penalized for a mechanical problem out of my control, then hit with contradictory and unfair fuel charges. I cannot recommend Centauro after this experience and will be pursuing a refund. "

" It was my first rental with Centauro because it was significantly cheaper compared to other companies on this occasion. The pick up/drop off location is just outside the airport but it's a bit of a nightmare to get there, not even taxi drivers know how to get there. The company provides regular shuttle service to/from main terminal but I didn't use it. The very BIG problem is the inefficiency and very long time of check in. They have this priority list for an extra cost, which wasn't offered to me at the time of the booking and so it took me 2 hours to collect the car on a fairly busy day. The employees, only 2, at the desk were taking on average 30-40 minuted for each customer and they were letting other people sneaking in the queue for other matters. I found the whole experience very frustrating and I wasn't the only one. "

We finally had to take a taxi wich was expensive (15 EUR) to get to the rental station. 2. The first car offered was unacceptable because of extreme bad smell inside ( cold cigarette smoke). 3. The second car I received instead was cleaned superficially on the outside, the inside was dirty, the windscreen had not been cleaned from the inside for a long time and the back seats were covered with several large disgusting stains. A lot of dents covered the car on the outside. It took me some extra time to take pictures of these. 4. After driving for a while I found out that the cluch was in a bad condition. 5. The stuff was friendly and the return of the car and the shuttle back to the airport was quick. "

When we arrived on 10th of October to Lisboa Air Port and went to CENTAURO office, I was said that they do not have 9 seats cars!!! AutoEurope staff and Centauro staff that they can not help me and offered to find 9 seat car by my self!!! In the peak of the season!!! I spent my strength, nerves and time and found only 8 seat car with driver in local company Insider Time. So I paid my money (50 euro) to send 7 people by new car to the hotel in Lisboa and CENTAURO gave me small car so I and + 1 person went by that car in the hotel. On the 11th of October we had a program Lisboa + Sintra + Cabo de Rocco. CENTAURO said me that they are able to provide me with 9 seat car only in the evening 11th October. So we need to rent by Insider Time the same VAN for 1 more day (11.10.2019) for 250 euro. In the evening of 11th October 2019 I finally received a 9 seat car be CENTAURO. I noticed that dashboard sensors showed that something is wrong with the car and I asked about that staff of CENTAURO. They said that everything is OK. On the 12th in the morning we moved to the Porto. On the 13th we parked the car in underground parking in Porto. It was cold and rainy. My friends left in the center of Porto and I moved to the car. Engine was not started....!!! I called to road assistance and they said to go to office of CENTAURO in Porto airport. I spent again my strength, nerves and time and found 3 taxi (15,90+18,90+31 = 65.80 euro) to move as from parking to the hotel with laguages. And after I went to airport. A manager from there said that he knows what is the problem and we moved to Porto parking. But the engine did nor work. Nerves, time, nerves, time...After we came to Porto airport office and he gave me new car. P.S. No body from AutoEurope or CENTAURO staff said me excuse us! However, we were quickly met by a representative who scanned the paperwork and that was all that was required, so occurred quickly. Major problems were: car promised (Peugeot) was not car provided (Nissan Micra); car provided was high mileage and tires were almost completely worn, representing a serious road hazzard; asked for safer vehicle, which was possible without entering line again and waiting even longer due to size having doubled since arriving. " I have been an regular customer, however the last time as I dropped off the car I was charged 300 euro for a scratch on the right front wheel. What is most annoying when I accepted the car and requested an inspection I was told don't worry all in order, I inspected the car, it smelled of smoke in the interior which I marked, and when I noticed the scratch on the wheel, I was told don't worry, only paint marks are recorded. The most annoying part was that I drove the car from the airport to my apartment, parked it there in the garage and picked it up and returned it to the airport, as I was admitted to a clinic, hence I actually hardly drove the car. " Despite I phoned the company that there was a delay at my flight and I would be at Lisbon after midnight, there was nobody at the airport waiting for us. So I had to rent for one day from another company and go again at the airport the next day to be transferred by the shuttle at the office and pick up the car. I noticed after their shuttle dropped us off back at Lisbon airport that the final paperwork I was given had not been checked off as "no damage".
