" Renting a car with Auto Europe is really simple and streamlined. There's just one big problems which is that when you get to the check.in counter of companies like SIXT they will put you in a very difficult situation where they'll either say the Auto Europe's insurance is o good or that you still have to pay a 2400€ deposit to take the car, unless you buy another premium insurance. That's what happened to me. I had to fork out an extra 146 euros to take the car when I had already purchased Auto Europe's insurance. Given these circumstances, I would actually like to know if a refund is possible for the extra Auto Europe insurance charge. I am happy to provide any further details or documentation if needed. "
" There's a massive problem with SIXT, in my estimation. Upon arrival at the their check-in desk, I was put under significant pressure to purchase an additional premium insurance policy. Despite explaining that I was already covered through my Auto Europe booking, I was told that unless I paid for their premium insurance I'd be held accountable for any damage or accident and they would use the deposit held on my card - 2400 euros - to pay for the damage. As a result, the car ended up with two insurance policies, and the total cost of the rental increased by an additional €146. This situation was both frustrating and confusing, as I believe the initial coverage I selected should have been enough. "

Good thing as I experienced a crack in the windscreen from a rock as I was passing a truck. "

" The problem I have is not with Sixt but with Auto Europe: 1/ I was made to wait 40 minutes at the Sixt counter because people who reserved directly with Sixt passed ahead of me even though they arrived after: your partner despises you. 2/ I selected an SUV much more expensive vehicle because AutoEurope showed it could store three suitcases. Not at all true: barely one and a half. Deceptive and misleading representations. 3/ I was made to pay 15 Euro a day for an additional driver; Sixt says the additional fees listed by Autoreurope of EUR 10 VAT included per day are totally outdated. Cost to me due to AutoEurope unreliable conditions: 45 Euros. So for me going through Autoeurope represented a loss of time, money, and getting the wrong car through an unreliable description. As a person who trusts the words and expects fair business I expected that sixt would fill the tank after my trip, denote the used fuel and refund for the unused fuel (obvious? - yes). I gave the car back with ~1/3 gas in the tank and was really disappointed to find out that this remainder is not refunded and is just a pricey present from me to sixt! To extend the booking, however, I get told by your agent that I would have to drive to the airport to do so, because you simply cannot do it via your system. Really, a 6hr drive because you are not able to extend a basic car rental booking? I was told that you would have to do a new booking, could not extend the existing one, and therefore my and the car's presence at the place of pick-up would be required. When booking, the option for an extra driver was selected, however it transpired that this option was not available for the dates the car was booked for, but for ANOTHER TIME IN THE FUTURE. Always a good reminder to read the small print, but also, not to trust companies like Auto Europe. Worth mentioning that we found this so unbelievable, we contacted Auto Europe's client services by telephone when collecting the car and the client representative we spoke with was utterly rude. " 29.05.2020 To AutoEurope Customer Service - by email Rental Voucher EU17917374-1 Dear Sir or Madam, My car rental experience this week was an absolute disaster. Please read the description below. My objective was to drive from Faro to Lisbon for a short midday speaking engagement and to return to Faro via alternate travel arrangements without the need to stay the night. By complying the instructions stated in your detailed rental voucher, the result was to completely miss my speaking engagement, incur €78.78 in additional expenses and to be unable to return to Faro the same day. I arrived at Faro airport an hour early, at 8am. I could not locate any available SIXT representatives there and so multiple phone calls were made to AutoEurope from Faro Airport seeking assistance. I was informed by AutoEurope to wait in the arrivals area at Faro Airport until 9am and a SIXT representative would arrive to collect me. When that didn't happen:- I was informed by AutoEurope to wait at the car rental shuttle stop at the airport for the SIXT shuttle. When that didn't happen:- I was informed by AutoEurope that SIXT had now been specifically informed to send a shuttle to pick me up. When that didn't happen:- I was put on hold for 24 minutes during phone call to AutoEurope while they investigated why all of the above had failed. Finally at 10:30am I was instructed by AutoEurope to take a taxi to an alternative SIXT rental location in Montenegro to collect the rental car. My problems continued in Lisbon where the rental voucher again guided me to a SIXT rental location that had been closed for some weeks and thus more unplanned expenses were incurred. These days, as you are no doubt aware, all EU mobile phone calls made within the EU are considered included minutes within the various EU mobile available phone plans. Unless of course, the number called is considered a "special" number such as 800 numbers. Your rental voucher provides many such "ordinary" phone numbers around the EU that would appear to be considered "normal" and thus no cost to call with an ordinary EU mobile phone plan. However, as you can see on the attached phone bill the number you list for AutoEurope in Portugal (+351 308 805 968) is considered "special" but without any warning form AutoEurope and thus costs €54.75 for a 24 minute call. This expense is particularly galling since it is a call that should not have been necessary to make .......but for the multiple invalid pickup directions offered by AutoEurope on this day. I think your records will show that I have been a regular and satisfied client of AutoEurope USA and AutoEurope EU for the last 20 years or so. On this occasion I would respectfully request the reimbursement of (€3.22 and €19.81 in taxi fares and €55.75 in telephone expenses). A total of €78.78. As you can imagine there are further expenses of both financial and convenience in nature caused by this experience. I am prepared to bear these costs myself. FYI When I made my online reservation with AutoEurope I selected "All Locations" for pickup location and I was offered ONLY one pickup location, Faro Airport. I would gladly have selected the Montenegro location for pick (where I eventually picked the car up) as I had taken a taxi to Faro that morning. Did not offer via verde toll management rental and when asked specifically about it said it was not available, I'd need to just go to the post office and pay if I incurred any electronic tolls in my travels. At drop off in Porto agent could not account for highly unusual behavior of colleague, said this rental is always encouraged. Also said as activation cannot take place later on in the rental I'd have to visit post office to take care of the outstanding tolls. 1 week and 3 trips to the post office later I've been unsuccessful as the tolls are not yet registering in the system leading me to believe they were indeed covered by the device and at some point my credit card will be hit with large administrative fees from Sixt. Will not be renting from Sixt again. "

I asked for a clio/polo (as I ordered) but told none available. Eventually I saw a polo coming through the valet system and went back in to the office and asked for that car which they did. it was disappointing that they were not able to upgrade me for free and that I had to walk the yard to find a solution. " The counter staff person was very good. The staff person providing the car was very bad. He didn't come out of the office with us to set up or inspect the car or pull the car out of the parking area. It was dark and we did not notice a damage mark at the left door lock area. A scratch and indentation above the door lock. We left the office thinking everything was ok. When we found the damage we immediately emailed the office about the damage and was told they would forward the email to the receiving staff. When we returned the vehicle the receiving person did not inspect the vehicle with us and the receiving location was crammed with cars returning and was understaffed. they essentially pushed us out the door. We were billed for the door damage and the bill was written in Portugise so we could not understand what the items were specifficly and respond to them. they did not acknowledge our email about the door damage and just charged us. The car ran fine. The GPS did not function so an english speaker could list the addresses and find thee location we were looking for. "

" Auto Europe itself was fine to book through. But I can't recommend a brokerage that uses Sixt as a car rental place. They need to have better standards about the companies that they use. "
" Got to airport to pick up car. Waited in line for reception for 30 minutes. Woman at counter was not overly friendly. Kept adding extra fees without fully explaining what charges were going on my credit card. After I finally got the paperwork done, I went to go pick up car. Staff at pick up area gave me keys and told me which spot I was parked in without any further instructions. When we arrived at the car, the car was parked so tightly next to a post and another van (the van was parked across the line on the other side), that we couldn't even walk around the car to put our bags in the trunk. We had to walk around the back and go in from the other side just to get to the trunk. Noticing how tightly the cars were parked we asked for assistance in getting the car out. The first man we asked didn't work for Sixt (I don't think) but was parking a bunch of other cars. We asked him for help, he got in the car, turned the key, then got out and ran off. He didn't speak much English but said something about having to go. After waiting another 10 minutes or so for him to come back, we realized he was not going to. We then decided to ask someone else for help. This person did, in fact, work for Sixt. I was told his name is Yayo Sanchez. Mr Sanchez then got in the car, turned it on, moved it up about a cm, then reversed it back to the original position. He got out of the car, handed me the keys then left. After asking two people for help, we decided we had to get moving so I tried to pull the car out. I only moved the car very slightly forward and sure enough it scraped the post on the passenger side. We were quite upset that we were put in a position where failure is not only possible, but likely. I then was told by Mr. Sanchez to go to the desk and ask for another employee. I went to the desk and the employee who I was told to ask for (unfortunately I do not remember his name) was already dealing with another couple who had done the exact same thing (hit a post when trying to move the car out)! Once he was done with them he came to "assist" us. He looked at the car and called his supervisor. I asked him why I couldn't get the car out of the spot and why they are parked so tightly. He said "we encourage customers to ask for help to get the car out". (I did ask for help (TWICE), and they did NOT encourage me to ask for help either. They just handed me the keys and told me the space number). Finally the supervisor arrived. His name is Abel Ruis (employee #76133). He took a look at the car, took a few pictures and brought us in for an estimate on the repairs. He then gave us a quote of 750 Euros to repair of which he asked us to pay right away. I asked him many questions about the cars being parked so tightly and why we were put in a position to fail, for which he multiple times shrugged his shoulders and argued that the staff parks the cars on a daily basis without issues, so we should be able to as well. I then asked Mr. Ruis why Mr. Sanchez would not move the car out of the spot when we asked him. They spoke in Portugese for a few seconds before Mr. Ruis answered "He does not want to pay for any damages out of his own pocket". To me, this shows that they KNOW the car was likely to be scratched the second it was moved from the spot, and the do NOT encourage you to ask for help when moving the car. We cancelled our reservation because we did not want to deal with this shady company anymore and did not get a refund. Overall this experience was awful, and a scam. They put us in a position to fail right from the start of our experience. How they can park cars so close to a cement post, with a van in the spot next to it that's across the parking space line, and expect people to get out without scratching is beyond me. I will never ever use this company again, and I will be spreading the word on social media and wherever I can about how bad this company is. "

" I had a puncture in side wall of tire and they charged me over €500 for a new one. A set of 4 tires would have cost less. I think this is a rip off and I will never rent from them. I am the manager of a large team for a large multinational (amazon) and we frequently use car rental. From here on in we will request a different provider. "

" I made my contract and paid Autoeurope and Autoeurope is responsible for Sixt extremely poor service and for braking contract and providing me car from different group (inferior) than contracted. "

Made me wait in parking lot with a small baby almost until 21:00 and in the end gave me a car that was NOT in the same car group as it was contracted and paid. Had requested SUV and NO SUV was available and only combi in very poor condition was available. "
