" Unfortunately Thrifty changed their car selection setup a couple of months ago. Until then customers could choos their car in the respective category on their own. Now the car is pre-selected by Thrifty and the counter staff neither did inform us about the change nor was asking what kind of vehicle we would like to prefer. Instead they assigned a car to us that we did not like which in addition turned out to be in a very bad condition (high mileage, worn out, scretches and dents etc.). With a lot of effort finally and luckily we could change the car to a more favourable model. " Thrifty were fine and gave me an additional hook up cable, however the electric charging points provided on the pesto APP were dissapointing, it you had to go in & pay for parking in Terminal A or B to recharge the vehicle. The Jetblue ones are for staff only and the chargepoint app does not have all charging stations , and you end up having to download for example FPL app for South Florida , at Cocoa Beach , the fast chargers were charging twice as much but were not fast. The Max they produced was 25kw , " I tried 2 of them" . 4 stations one out of order , the balance on a go slow. They expect everybody to have top-of-the-range phones and international roaming. Those things should work with a credit card only/ as well. The electric car experience is very stressful over there , and does create range anxiety because when you get to a charging station there is no guarantee if you find it , it will be working "

Yet nobody was there giving instructions on how to use it. They just assumed I knew. I have never driven an electric vehicle. I did not know how to recharge it, where to recharge it, if it could be recharged with a Tesla recharger, how far it would go on a charge, etc. etc. It also said on the paperwork that I had to bring it back with a full tank of FUEL. How could I do that if it was an electric vehicle? Again, no explanation from Thrifty personnel about any of this, or even a warning that some of the vehicles were all electric. A lot of assumptions on their part. This was a customer service FAIL! "

On November 29th, I crashed the rental car, which was undamaged and with a full tank, which I told the Thrifty pickup just to be sure. On December 1, 2023, an amount of $54.79 was deducted from my account. I don't know what and why. When I picked up the car at the beginning of my lease, I pointed out to the Thrifty employee that I didn't want it to happen in the past. I don't have any other options, just what I paid for the voucher. The worker took note. It was strange to me that I didn't have to sign anything when receiving the car keys, which has never happened in the past...! " We had a very bad experience with our recent car rental at Thriffty at San Francisco Airport. When booking the car, we chose and paid for car insurance (we chose standard insurance, the only thing that was not included was Optional Premium Emergency Roadside Service (PERS)). At the counter, the lady asked us if we wanted any additional insurance and we explicititly said no, that we only want what we already chose and paid for when booking the car. She said ok and to sign the papers then. She then requested the credit card that we used when booking the car. Soon after we left the place, Thriffty charged us 124,18 $. We assumed it was some kind of deposit which we would get back upon returning the car. When we returned the car, we got a receipt, from which we saw that Thriffty actually charged us for roadside service in the ammount of 9,99 $ per day + taxes and realized we would not be getting our money back. This is something we did not order and did not agree to. Actually, we explicitly declined any additional services or charges when picking up the car. Something like this has never happened before and we did not expect to be scammed by a rental car company. "

Only after he charged credit card, he gave as print-out without any explanation. Later we understoods that instead of taking security deposit, he added insurances (PAI/PEC, Prem Road Serv) and fuel option "full-empty", which in total cost us extra 365 USD. Security deposit obviously was 200 USD, as total sum charged was 565 USD. During our servicing he did not mention any added costs and did not ask our approval for anything. Never before have we experienced a situation where an agent quietly adds what he wants without asking, so we in good faith did not pay attention to his actions. " Just one comment - after coming back I have discovered that I have been charged for "PREMIUM EMERGENCY ROADSIDE SERVICE" for the amount of 131.26 USD and this has been issued on me without asking me on the counter if I would like to have it. In fact I do remember that the lady on the counter just told me that I do have it, but nothing about that it will cost me extra money on top of what I already have paid. I do understand that Americans are used to be ripped off with hidden costs and small foot prints but that is not really welcomed in EU. "

I called various Thrifty numbers and was told that I had canceled that (because i wanted to fuel myself), but when I got to the airport was informed that i still needed to go to the Thrifty counter. There I encountered a very helpful staff person who sorted everything out wonderfully. (Actually not at the Thrifty but at the DOLLAR counter). Under the seat we even found an empty bottle of cleaning liquid which may have been used once in the car. Apparently Thrifty did not pay much attention to the maintenance of the car. Other than that the car was fortunately able to make the trip with us but the overall look of the car was disappointing. The return process was quick and OK. "
