" We had a very bad experience with our recent car rental at Thriffty at San Francisco Airport. When booking the car, we chose and paid for car insurance (we chose standard insurance, the only thing that was not included was Optional Premium Emergency Roadside Service (PERS)). At the counter, the lady asked us if we wanted any additional insurance and we explicititly said no, that we only want what we already chose and paid for when booking the car. She said ok and to sign the papers then. She then requested the credit card that we used when booking the car. Soon after we left the place, Thriffty charged us 124,18 $. We assumed it was some kind of deposit which we would get back upon returning the car. When we returned the car, we got a receipt, from which we saw that Thriffty actually charged us for roadside service in the ammount of 9,99 $ per day + taxes and realized we would not be getting our money back. This is something we did not order and did not agree to. Actually, we explicitly declined any additional services or charges when picking up the car. Something like this has never happened before and we did not expect to be scammed by a rental car company. "

" Ordering was easy, we expected to have everything included, but had to pay extra while picking the car "
" I was charged additional 594 dollars instead of 150 which were mentioned in the voucher. They said it is for insurance or something and there was no way to refuse it. First car they provided was a bit broken(fuel door didn't close, boot lid was not working) they changed it immediately, but we received smaller car (first was ford expedition, new one was ford explorer) however the car we received was almost new with really good fuel economy. "

" Hi, This is the 2nd car we have hired with you within the last 9 months, both Ford Expiditions. 3rd car overall in the last few years in USA. We have found the company and the car great on both occasions. Once in Denver and recently in San Fran. Sami I think it was who I returned the car to in SFO was very kind. We have 2 visually impaired kids and he gave us loads of time to get all the technology and stuff out of the car. Also a mention to Tevin in customer care SFO, I left a disability badge in the cvar and he searched to find the car downstairs and returned the disc to us. We have had trouble free driving on all ocassions. Thanks :) "

" We were literally tricked into buying extra insurance. Thrifty employee did not explain any of his actions, just said that he is going to charge our credit card for security deposit. Only after he charged credit card, he gave as print-out without any explanation. Later we understoods that instead of taking security deposit, he added insurances (PAI/PEC, Prem Road Serv) and fuel option "full-empty", which in total cost us extra 365 USD. Security deposit obviously was 200 USD, as total sum charged was 565 USD. During our servicing he did not mention any added costs and did not ask our approval for anything. Never before have we experienced a situation where an agent quietly adds what he wants without asking, so we in good faith did not pay attention to his actions. Of course we should have been more careful, but this kind of business is against any ethical norms and customer service rules. "

What I would recomend to them is that they check more regularly the condition of tires, the front tires were quite worn down and not inflated to the right psi. Also interior cleaning could be better, but it was not all bad, just the back side of the drivers seat was for some reason not cleaned. Overall expirence was quite good. "

" The booking system provides a very good overview of options and price structure. Prices are competitive and I have used Auto Europe many times, and plan on using them again. "
" The vehicle had been booked and confirmed 3 months in advance. Upon arrival, following an overseas flight of 10+ hours, it took 1.5 hours to get through the line and present the paperwork to the counter staff. Only then did I learn that there was a shortage of vehicles. I was asked to wait a few hours. I estimate that approximately 100 people were crowding the premise leaving mainly standing options, and an increasing level of frustration, leading to shouting between disgruntled customers and staff. In the end, after having waited for a total of 5 hours, the staff told me I could be waiting the entire night. I gave up and took a taxi to my hotel and returned the following day. I then got a vehicle. I asked about some sort of compensation for the long wait, the expenditure of 80+ dollars on taxi, and the delay of our vacation - and the fact that I was still charged for the full rental period. I was told that they could not do anything to accommodate the inconvenience. I have rented many cars in the past. This experience, in contrast, is by far the worst in terms of lack of customer service, information, lack of appreciation/reimbursement. I have a hard time recommending Dollar to anyone, and will not spend my money on this company in the future. "

" The rental car performed fine. However, the counter staff at Avis in Seattle was quite unpleasant. Instead of offering explanations, she repeatedly said 'I am just doing my job' in a very impatient tone. We were actually very taken aback at her attitude. (We picked up the car at a very quiet time in the evening when there were few customers.) She also incorrectly informed us that the drop off charge would be billed at the time of drop off, when in fact the voucher showed that we had already paid for the car in full, including the drop off charge. This is the second time we have rented a car from Avis at SeaTac (through Auto Europe) and had poor customer service. As well, it is now more than 96 hours since we dropped off the car and the final bill has not yet been settled . (We had an extra driver for two days, which is the only extra cost we incurred.) "

" Price was good but would give you a 10 only if you start including National in your list. Their lineup of Luxury cars is appropriate to the name, you'd never get handed a Chrysler 300 there. They have plenty of Audi, BMW, Volvo, and Mercedes on hand. "
" What Avis considers a Luxury car is a bit of a joke. They wanted to give me a Chrysler 300 at first, a massive POS car that I'd be embarrassed to drive, they are ugly and guzzle gas, and do not crash well if you have a bad accident. Far more likely to get seriously injured or die than in a foreign car of the same caliber. They put all European cars in Specialty category to prevent them from getting rented under contracts (Including Volvo which is Premium or Luxury at any other brand). Finally I got a Genesis G70 which is a very nice car and seems appropriate for the Luxury category (unlike anything made by Chrysler), but did use a lot more gas than a Volvo S60 or S90. After this experience with what Avis / Budget consider Luxury, I think I'll try going back to National for similar rentals. "

The booking system of budget at San Francisco Airport is outdated (they still have the blue screen) and although the personell is very friendly (a group of four young women who clearly could not book a car with you took up 20 minutes of the time of the second employee!!). Waiting for almost two hours after a 12-hour flight is simply outrageous! "

" When we arrived at counter, all paper work was done. We then had to wait over 20 minutes because car had to be cleaned. When we picked it up, it wasn't very clean and certainly not just washed. The car had some small damage, we could find no one to report it too. Then someone came and told us to tell it to the person at the booth. We did, but he was surprised that we told him and said it would not be a problem. The car now and then had some notices when starting up about service being needed. The car had no window fluid and oil was just enough. Tyre pressure was low. It felt like it was not very well maintenanced. "

" The car was very low on oil. The oil light was on. No help from the company number or the roadside assistance. The office where we picked up the car said we could drive an-hour back to the airport and they could check it, but they did not have extra cars. Finally, I checked the oil, almost none, and researched the special type of oil a VW Jetta uses. Then I bought a quart of the special synthetic oil and put it in the car. No problems then. Small thing, but I was paying 1500 for a car with no oil. This has never happened before. "

My concern is about the very, very poor customer service at pick-up: 45+minutes wait; employee serving me berated me on my use of voucher-companies (taking all profits from Budget, complained about unfair pricing for Americans vs. Tourists), challenged the terms of the voucher (one free fuel tank), tried to oversell me on insurance (asked same question 4x even when I responded NO first time round), asked me for my personal details whilst they are clearly stated on the voucher, I needed to ask for restitution of my voucher, then keep me waiting further 15 minutes out of line. Very unprofessional and very unfriendly. "

At the counter we were met with a "hard sale" on additional Insurance related to flat tires and similar road side incidents. We bought it, but felt fooled. On both occasions there were not enough staff and we had to wait 40 minutes in Nizza and 35 in Las Vegas, which is a little to much. " Our first car in Phoenix showed next day a warning signal on the dashboard. Luckily the hotel where we were staying help us with phoning and Alamo send another car to the hotel. We saw almost immediately that that car had an oil leak at the back axle. Another phone call and they send us yet another car a Hyundai Santa Fe which was very good and made our trip very nice. The story lasted all afternoon until 7pm. Alamo 's fleet is too small in Phoenix. It took them a long time to find a replacement car. Their car have also high mileage ( not our last one) "
