Counter service was extremely slow - I had to wait over an hour to get my car, despite having an advance reservation (the line was not that long, but the service for each customer was painstakingly slow). I rent cars often and have never had to wait as long as I did at Hertz San Francisco - quite disappointing. Also, when returning the car, there was almost no staff at the airport, just one employee instructing people to leave their keys in the car if they didn't need a receipt immediately. Two people in front of me who wanted a receipt were arguing with the Hertz representative. I would have liked a receipt but as I had a flight to catch, eventually left my keys in the car. I have yet to receive a final receipt from Hertz (five days later). This is all quite surprising and disappointing, as Hertz positions itself as a premium brand. I will think twice about ever using Hertz again, especially in SF. "

I tried to tell him that he called me a superior and claimed that he was not available and that I would then have to call the HERTZ telephone number 1-800-654-3131 and he handed me a folder and marked the said number with a yellow pen. I asked for time to think and decide how I should act. I sat at a table and using the HERTZ App on my cell phone, as a GOLD member, I was able to make a reservation right there at the same time and took it to the same employee who had a surprised reaction and didn't hesitate and released the car immediately so I could and my wife could continue our trip. Later that evening I got a notification on the car that tyres needed to be attended to and had to organise finding somewhere to pump the tyres. I would also point out that the wiper blades were of very poor quality, with the blade clearing the passenger side of the windscreen actually coming away slightly from the wiper arm. It did not perform well. The drivers side was passable but not of the standard I would expect from hertz. "

" My last rental with Hertz has been a very bumpy experience. On 6/29 I had updated my profile at hertz.com to reflect my new drivers licence number. I received a confirmation mail that my profile had been updated. I had received an email on 7/18 with the rental car pickup details and a chance to check in already before. I tried to check in but the web page told me that as a Gold Plus Rewards Program customer I had been checked in already. I had arrived at the Gold counter at around 6pm after a 12 hour flight from Europe and I waited in line for about 10 minutes. When it was my turn I was taken care of by Jose A. He informed me that my contract was not under Gold customers reservations and that I was not checked in. So he had to take my drivers licence, credit card and the rental voucher made out by AutoEurope and go through the entire booking process. After about 20 minutes we were ready to go. We loaded the car with my suitcases and went to the checkout gate. There I was told that I could not check out with the vehicle since my drivers license number does not match the number in the rental agreement. I had to return back to the counter. I found this odd since Jose A. had my new drivers licence number in hand when he did the booking going through all the details. After returning to the counter Jose A. informed me that the new drivers licence number was not reflected in the system although I had received confirmation from Hertz that my new drivers licence number had been updated in my profile. Jose A. informed me that he would need a new voucher from AutoEurope since he will have to make a new contract. Since it had been after midnight in Europe by this time I guessed it would be unlikely to get a new voucher within a reasonable time frame. Especially since I had still to drive 2.5 hours after the 12-hour flight I wanted to get this done as quickly as possible. Jose A. then tried that he could do a manual contract (after consulting for a while with his supervisors). He got a special code to do a manual contract. It took another 20--30 minutes to get this finalised. All this time my wife waited in the car with our luggage. I asked Jose A. for an upgrade to compensate for the long wait and he gave us a Chevy Equinox. After unloading the previous car and loading the new car we finally could get going and leave the rental facility around 7:10 pm, over an hour after we had arrived at the Gold counter. Later we found banking documents and sunglasses from a previous renter in the glove compartment. Seems that cleaning had only been done superficially. I would like to know how it is possible that (1) The new drivers licence number had not been in the system although I had received confirmation that my profile had been updated. (2) I had received confirmation that I had been checked in already as a Gold member but when arriving at the counter no information on my rental had been in the system (3) When issuing the first contract with my drivers licence in hand it was not checked that there had been a different licence number in the system (4) Belongings of previous renters are still in cars being let to new renters I had been Gold member for over 25 years. I had decided to rent with Hertz and not one of the other rental companies to ensure that we can leave the airport rental facility as fast as possible. I also had paid a higher price for the rental compared to other offers by AutoEurope. My wife asked me never to book Hertz again after this experience. "

" When I picked up the car I asked if the car had Navigation system - the answer was no. I asked if any of their cars had navigation systems - again a no! Then I had to rent a GPS to a ridicolous price - I could buy several GPS for that price!!! I declined and when I got the car, it turned out that it indeed DID have a navigation system. I got really angry - other people would surely have fallen into their trap and rented the GPS! Whwn habding over the car, there was a very young girl, who was not up to customer servic, just walked off when she gave us the receipt - not good buy or anything. I had to ask her when she walked away, if that was it! I got hold of the manager called Bobby, to tell him about my experience regarding the GPS. He did not even look me in the eye, did not say he was sorry or any very common customer service. He walked away and then asked one of his staff to give us a voucher for 50$ - what a joke. "

The only annoying thing was, that after starting up the car we saw message on the dashboard, that motor oil must be changed. After talking to Herts employ he reseted board computer and message was gone. But still we were not 100% sure if oil was really changed or only message was cleared. Staff at drop off location (Ronald Reagan Washington) Were very eager to finish off their shift. I made a mistake when booking since I wanted to return the car on July 7 at 1 am, but erroneously booked for July 6 at 1am. I also failed to refuel the car due to there not being a petrol station in the vicinity. Therefore having been charged for an extra day (which is fine) staff told me to take car out again and go refuel at a petrol station 10 mins away. Having arrived at the garage exit security would not let me out cause paperwork had expired and while staff had charged me for an extra day they failed to update the contract. So I went back and just paid for the fuel since I was tired after a long drive. "

" Regarding Hertz: Overall the rental was ok. A couple of things I was not satisfied with was the car I was provided and Hertz communication: I booked and paid for a Jeep Cherokee or similar but the car I was given was a Kia Sportage. This (in my opinion) is not only smaller than a Cherokee but also shares only very few similarities - It is comparable (in size) to the smaller Jeep Compass which it is also compared against in motoring reviews. I spoke to Hertz about this but they assured me that the Sportage is in the same class as the Cherokee and they cannot change it. We even looked at a Compass that Hertz had which was clear to be of similar size (in turn smaller than the Cherokee) ... This was more of an annoyance than a real problem and I left me feeling slightly cheated by the car I was provided with. Any feedback regarding this would be much appreciated! Another problem was trying to get hold of a member of Hertz staff during the rental period. I had a simple question and tried calling a LOT of times over a LONG period of time with no success. In the end, I left a message which I can only assume was not picked up, handled or responded to in any way. Again, as this was a simple question was more of an annoyance than a problem, but is also worrying for future rentals if a more serious problem occurs. I must also state that despite this, the staff was friendly, approachable and polite and the dropoff was fast and efficient! "
