" Dear Customer Relations Representative, I am writing to formally dispute the recent charge of 1,040 CHF applied to my rental contract RNT-36301, regarding vehicle AI32204, which I believe to be both incorrect and unfairly handled. When I returned the car to the Hertz Zurich parking area at night, there were absolutely no visible damages to the vehicle. We have clear photographic and video evidence taken at the time of return that shows the car's condition and the parking area (including the fact that the regular Hertz spots were full). At no point was there any indication of a scratch on the driver's side door, as later stated in your damage report. Moreover, your staff explicitly recommended we return the vehicle after hours and leave it parked in the designated lot. The charge also initially included front bumper damage that had already been noted and acknowledged by your agent at pickup. We received written confirmation that this was pre-existing and would not be charged. While I understand that this portion of the charge has since been removed, it raises valid concerns about the accuracy of your internal processes, and whether the alleged door scratch may likewise have been misattributed. Furthermore, I was informed that a so-called "nail test" was used to assess the alleged scratch. This is not an objective or reliable method, especially without photographic evidence after the car had been washed. I specifically requested the opportunity to inspect the vehicle post-wash to confirm the presence (or absence) of any actual damage, but this request was denied with the explanation that the vehicle had already been rented out again. This refusal made it impossible for me to verify any alleged damage. Unfortunately, the local Hertz representative I dealt with in Zurich was dismissive and uncooperative, refusing to provide assistance or clarification, which I find far below the standards expected of an international company such as Hertz. As an EU tourist, I consider this a serious issue of consumer fairness. I reserve the right to escalate this matter through all available legal and administrative channels, including filing a Schlichtungsverfahren (conciliation procedure) with the Swiss authorities, and contacting the European Consumer Centre. To move forward constructively, I respectfully request the following: Clear photographic or video proof of the alleged scratch after the car had been cleaned. A formal explanation of how the damage was evaluated, and why I was denied the opportunity to inspect it myself. "

I was ready to reduce the number of hours from 24 to 11 and still they weren't flexible enough to allow me to do that. They kept saying that the drop off annd pick up time is fed in the system and They can't do anything about it. However, when we reached the counter before our scheduled time (at 4pm instead of 5:30pm, they said that you can take the car now but you have to return at the same time tomorrow. Now funnily they were ready to change the time here. Also, this was a prepaid booking! "

" This was the most bald faced, in your face scam we've ever encountered in renting cars on 5 continents over 15 years. The Zurich rental agent resorted to several different strategies to bilk our insurance company of their money. There isn't enough space to describe all of them in this little box but in discussions with the Aviva insurance agent we described them all and she agreed with us that she sees these same scams all the time. First he tried to bilk us of a significant amount of money for the damage deposit by claiming my pin didn't go through 3 times and told us that he couldn't give us a paper copy of the visa pin refusal "because everything is digital now". He then told us it was OK because he has a way around getting the pin number. It turned out the next day we found 3 identical charges, which Visa reversed at our rewquest. When we returned the car he came out of his office with his little tablet and zeroed straight in to a very small patch with a few scratches on it that he had to rub with his fingers to make them visible. How did he know this was the only place on the car he needed to look. In the aftermath we were sent a statement by Hertz saying we would be billed for 550 CHF but when the visa charge came in it was for 583.30CHF. ???? We will be talking to Visa about the "I don't need the pin number I have a way around that" business. "

" Would be better to AutoEurope to be more specific about the insurance or any other excess covers offered to customers. All my 3 reservations in my trip to Europe had no insurance coverages only a promise for refundables excess probably for deductibles and/or co-pays in case of damages etc. As a customer going to the counter and there be notified that insurances were not included, was a surprise for using AutoEurope for the first time. " I have until today not received my refund on a car I never received. I also suggest you train your staff to understand the difference between a credit card and a debit card. I presented a Scotia bank Debit Credit card which is linked with all guarantees to my bank. My card was rejected and was stranded late at night and had to rent a car from your competitior. I even have the security code at the back of my card, I have all purchases, pre paid or authorisations for all my hotel bookings through my card, on line purchases etc. Yiur agent was stubborn and would not even listen. I was told that I wouls have to pay a fine of 140 CH as penalty which I do not agree, further more until today I have not even received a refund. What a pity. "

Exterior was wet, obviously just finish clearing from previous renting; interior was heavily spray with car fragrant or cleaning agent. Smell was unpleasant for some distance. However, there are several train stations, and it did not indicate that the Hertz location was not near the main train station. When we arrived at the Hertz near the main train station we were informed that our car was at a different location. We lost about an hour and spent money on public transportation to get to the other location. Hertz was not willing to drive the car to the main train station location. "

We obtained guaranteed rentals within minutes of our conversations. Once the difficulties with Hertz started to unravel our travel arrangements it was again Auto Europe who resolved the immediate difficulty the Hertz desk clerk was unwilling to even consider. The only area in which I could see room for improvement is in the complaint website. There are no spaces for extraordinary cases and the complaint cannot be submitted if the mandatory fields are not filled. "
" When we arrived at the airport desk at the appointed hour there was no Hertz representative present. No cars either. Someone told us that the telephone on the desk might connect us to Hertz. We spoke to the city desk and were told that they just could not get out to the airport but that it would be at least forty minutes for them to get the cars to us. We told them that we would pick up the cars in the city. When we arrived only the smaller car was available. Reason: Don't make reservations through a broker. They tried to charge for a 5seater the same amount as for 7seatvan. AU intervened after I called; then they tried to charge me the airport pick-up fee when we dropped off the cars. This took 2hr+. AU has records of this. Also a letter. "

" Receptionist was friendly and helpful, it took less than 20 minutes to get the keys. However, the car was all in scratches and bumps, so it took some time to register all of them with the garage man. It also had more than 50k kms. Expected Hertz to do better than this. "
