" I was advised not to rent a car in Europe and know I know why. Driving in the larger cities is very challenging. Narrow streets, street name signs are not where you can see them as you approach the intersection. Tall buildings block your view so. It is impossible to see where you are. Navigation apps though not perfect are imperative. "

Car was left unattended by Europcar personnel whome was not present when I dropped of the car in the Europcar return centre in the parking lot of Zaventem airport. 2 hours and 9 minutes later they send me a survey that the car had a scratch at the rear bumper right hand side. I told them in written that the car didn`t had any damage when I returned the keys at 05hr30 that morning. Other travellers damaged the car probably with their suitcases. Europcar is sending me mails and don`t want to listen to any reasonable explanation, they hold me responsible for the damage even when I had returned the keys before the damage occured at their parking lot! They are sending me mails in my Flemish mother tongue languiage that are not understandable. Bill is passed to me of 144 euro of damage that occured after I returned the car and the keys, I can`t be helded responsible what is happening with the car after the keys are returned and the rental contract is terminated! The inside of the ADAM OPEL windscreen was cloudy, the glove box was full of manuals for kitchen appliances, and there was no parking disc in the car! There was also no diagram of the car showing the various pre-existent damages:- various scratches, a bent number plate and a small windscreen crack. The rather rude person who rented out our car most likely knew this as he wanted us to rent a more expensive VW car at a higher price. He also tried to make us buy excess cover and saying that only EUROPCAR excess cover works and claiming that AUTO EUROPE does not refund the excess if you need to claim "REFUNDABLE EXCESS WITH SUPER COVER". When we walked the very long distance to the office to inform the man that there were undocumented damages, he told us to send photos and did not leave the back office. Die Innenseite der Windschutzscheibe war beschlagen, das Handschuhfach war voll mit Handbüchern für Küchengeräte, und im Auto befand sich keine Parkscheibe! Es gab auch kein Diagramm, das die verschiedenen Vorschäden am Auto zeigte: - verschiedene Kratzer, ein verbogenes Nummernschild und ein kleiner Steinschlag an der Windschutzscheibe. Die etwas unhöfliche Person, welches uns das Auto vermietet hat, wusste das höchstwahrscheinlich, weil er wollte, dass wir ein teureres VW-Auto zu einem höheren Preis mieten. Er hat auch versucht, uns zum Kauf eines "excess cover" von Europcar zu bewegen und behauptete, dass AUTOEUROPE den Excess nicht erstattet, falls man dessen "REFUNDABLE EXCESS WITH SUPER COVER" in Anspruch nimmt. The Navigation system, which I used extensively for a week, gave instruction in Spanish, which it happened is a a language I know, so no problem for me. But if it would be in Flemish, it would have been a major problem !. It would be good that somebody informs the renter of the language the navigation system is set up, to avoid surprises. Nowhere in the Manual there there were instructions how to change the Language "
