On the last day in Basel the car could not be opened electronically and had to use the metal key, afterwhich the alarm went off and could not start the engine. " Dear Customer Relations Representative, I am writing to formally dispute the recent charge of 1,040 CHF applied to my rental contract RNT-36301, regarding vehicle AI32204, which I believe to be both incorrect and unfairly handled. When I returned the car to the Hertz Zurich parking area at night, there were absolutely no visible damages to the vehicle. We have clear photographic and video evidence taken at the time of return that shows the car's condition and the parking area (including the fact that the regular Hertz spots were full). At no point was there any indication of a scratch on the driver's side door, as later stated in your damage report. Moreover, your staff explicitly recommended we return the vehicle after hours and leave it parked in the designated lot. The charge also initially included front bumper damage that had already been noted and acknowledged by your agent at pickup. We received written confirmation that this was pre-existing and would not be charged. While I understand that this portion of the charge has since been removed, it raises valid concerns about the accuracy of your internal processes, and whether the alleged door scratch may likewise have been misattributed. Furthermore, I was informed that a so-called "nail test" was used to assess the alleged scratch. This is not an objective or reliable method, especially without photographic evidence after the car had been washed. I specifically requested the opportunity to inspect the vehicle post-wash to confirm the presence (or absence) of any actual damage, but this request was denied with the explanation that the vehicle had already been rented out again. This refusal made it impossible for me to verify any alleged damage. Unfortunately, the local Hertz representative I dealt with in Zurich was dismissive and uncooperative, refusing to provide assistance or clarification, which I find far below the standards expected of an international company such as Hertz. As an EU tourist, I consider this a serious issue of consumer fairness. I reserve the right to escalate this matter through all available legal and administrative channels, including filing a Schlichtungsverfahren (conciliation procedure) with the Swiss authorities, and contacting the European Consumer Centre. To move forward constructively, I respectfully request the following: Clear photographic or video proof of the alleged scratch after the car had been cleaned. A formal explanation of how the damage was evaluated, and why I was denied the opportunity to inspect it myself. "

" I'm sorry to say that I am completely dissatisfied with how this rental went. There is little to no chance that I will use your platform again! In Basel, I was given a car from a lower class than the one I paid for! I received a Skoda Octavia instead of a Peugeot 3008. Moreover, when I requested a car from the class I had actually reserved, I was told that the Skoda was in the same class, and that if I wanted an SUV, I would need to pay an additional 210 euros. I was also told that I am not actually a Budget customer, but a customer of AutoEurope, and that any complaints should be addressed to those I paid. I showed the lady assisting me an informational note I found via ChatGPT on Budget's website, which clearly stated that the two cars are not in the same class. She mocked me and loudly told her colleagues, in English, that I was stupid for trying to prove this using ChatGPT. She then made some racist comments in French about my Romanian nationality. This lady is a disgrace to Budget, and I see no reason to ever work again with companies that tolerate such behavior! Not to mention, I was given a station wagon with a broken trunk cover that couldn't close and rattled the entire 7-day rental! I have photos of this issue. The car had Austrian license plates, like many other vehicles in the Budget parking lot. I saw other Skoda Octavias--probably without technical problems--as well as cars from the category I actually paid for (like a Volvo XC40 or a Skoda Kodiaq), for which I can also provide photos. I went back to the counter and asked to be given a different car, but the lady told me that there was no other car available for me! A week before this rental, I booked a car through your platform for four days from Geneva Airport. Everything went perfectly there! It's a real shame that such collaborators damage your image. It seems they still don't respect your brand. Honestly, this has never happened to me in the dozens of times I've rented cars through Rentalcars! "

" My experience with budget personnel was great. Everything went very quickly. I was just not very happy with the car itself. It was not very clean inside when I picked it up and the car was extremely basic. For a Mercedes, I was expecting much more than a simple transporter. The passenger could not even be moved at all! " In the recent rental we had a concern as the GPS was ineffective, not working and the Apple Car Play simply never syncd or worked with the screen. It appeared that this was and old model van- but in good condition being a Mercedes Vito Tourer 4x4. So the entire trip we had to use Google Maps and look at the phone to drive around. Navigator beside you had to guide us thru the drive as the maps didnt appear thru car play on the screen. The screen also was a very small screen as compared to moderately bigger ones in cars we have rented all these years. Since the van was an old model the seats were moderately okay and not as very comfortable as the car bucket kind of seats. Generally the drive was good and with good roads-we had a good trip during the entire rental period. "

This time we got a upgraded Mercedes Vito Tourer-which was extremely comfortable for the family and us to travel. " The staff was very friendly and helpful. Amazing car, very clean. Unfortunately after a day driving between the mountains we got an issue with the car. It melt and smoke came from under the hood. The car did not give any warning signs. We had to call for help but at the time they arrived all was fine. They recommend to fill the coolant, drive a bit, check and if all fine then it should be ok. After this the car looked fine. Unfortunately we had to change our route due to the delay. Normally when the car would had a full service check this should not have happend. Also weird that the car does not give a warning as it should normally. "

" Bad fleet, poor service. Booked a Mercedes sedan, suggested a large Mitsubishi SUV instead that would never be convenient for the city. I was told that the closest car to the Mercedes was a SKODA Kamiq and accepted it since I wanted a convenient car for the city. No power windows at the back!! Had to go to the airport 2 days after to beg for another car instead and gave me a BMW 1 series. No one was there during the SKODA pickup(4 minutes after close time at the airport) and couldn't show some damages on the SKODA that were not on the contract. Showed them the day we changed it with the BMW, assured that there will be no charges since we had the photos with date and time, but on the return contact these were mentioned as NEW DAMAGE. Will continue to rent with HERTZ, AVIS and Europcar as I did all these years problem free. "

" I booked a VW golf or similar through Auto Europe and I was then offered a Skoda Fabia, which is not in the same category. According to Europcar staff this was misleading from Auto Europe as the category which I booked was for the Fabia category (Polo, Fiesta, etc). Thankfully the staff there were helpful and offered a car in the category I requested. They also did not know that I had prepaid on Auto Europe and where going to charge me again. I also found out that it would have been cheaper if I booked directly with Europcar so probably next time I'll skip the middleman and go straight to the car rental Company. "

The people had only one thing in mind and that was the tire. They did not listen or trust a word of what I told them has happened and were then just making sure I would pay for the tire (just mentioning: a horrendous amount) No sign of empathy that their cars actually have tires that just are too old to survive very gentle driving. I. also got another invoice making me pay for the assistance (another horrendous amount). Roadside assistance is, for what I know the basic of all services and not a damage to the car itself and should without saying be included. I have my own assistance and would have called them would I have had the information that Alamo charges for that. I have worked in technical/roadside assistance for years and have to say this is the worst car rental (and conditions) I have ever seen. "

During my trip in the Lausanne area a tire went flat. I called the service and the proposed solution was: try to bring the car to Geneva where we could exchange it (Lausanne-Geneva 60km with a flat tire???). So I organized an intervention from the TCS and they could fixe it temporarily (costs 250.- CHF). When I brought the car back they told me I have to pay the tire (ok why not) and it will costs about 350.- CHF (are you kidding???) So this stupid tire costs me around 600CHF (??????). What the hell? Never ever ever again am I renting a car. "

" Would be better to AutoEurope to be more specific about the insurance or any other excess covers offered to customers. All my 3 reservations in my trip to Europe had no insurance coverages only a promise for refundables excess probably for deductibles and/or co-pays in case of damages etc. As a customer going to the counter and there be notified that insurances were not included, was a surprise for using AutoEurope for the first time. " Car was fine, but would have liked to have known beforehand that there was a CHF 2300 personal risk for damages attached to the rental offer. Your offer didn't explain this well. Also, car had certain new features ( for instance different cruise control system) that was not explained to me beforehand. Once we were on our way, all we had was a German language users manual, that we could not understand. Worst was very rudimentary, if not rude service from the handlers in the pick up office in the parking area. They were not interested in the customer and his or her questions at all, just wanted to get rid of us as quickly as possible. These guys need better supervision and training! "

I agreed to the price and she confirmed she would email a confirmation. No email received. Called again after a few days and was told them could not send email from that department. So I asked what should I do if I was stopped by the police in the last 3 days with an expired rental agreement. Was told the police would just call them to confirm. All in all I found my Dollar experience highly unacceptable. "

" I have until today not received my refund on a car I never received. I also suggest you train your staff to understand the difference between a credit card and a debit card. I presented a Scotia bank Debit Credit card which is linked with all guarantees to my bank. My card was rejected and was stranded late at night and had to rent a car from your competitior. I even have the security code at the back of my card, I have all purchases, pre paid or authorisations for all my hotel bookings through my card, on line purchases etc. Yiur agent was stubborn and would not even listen. I was told that I wouls have to pay a fine of 140 CH as penalty which I do not agree, further more until today I have not even received a refund. What a pity. "

This is the first time I have had extremely bad customer service where the assistant was refusing to give us a car due to a slight delay in my flight. This has happened a few times in the past and staff were more than accomodating. In this case the assistant was very rude, unhelpful and made my girlfriend and I feel uncomfortable when we were trying to find a solution. The member of staff made claims that we were unable to get a car due to being late and that we should know this, even though it is not explicitly set out when I paid for the car. They also tried to charge us for free GPS and argued this point when we noted the GPS was free. This in turn left us even later for a function we were scheduled to attend. Luckily, another helpful member of staff was able to intervene and get us a car but this experience will definitely make me reconsider where I rent from going forward. "

" I feel that Europcar treated my poorly because I booked through Auto Europe instead of directly through them. They knew that since it was a prepaid reservation I had no other choice but wait and do whatever they told us to. I will try to avoid booking through Auto Europe in the future, and advise others to do the same. "

" As a long time customer of Auto Europe I received the same helpful and prompt service I have become accustomed to over the years. When the website support proved inadequate to offer alternatives to my rental needs, telephone help was friendly and immediately helpful. We obtained guaranteed rentals within minutes of our conversations. Once the difficulties with Hertz started to unravel our travel arrangements it was again Auto Europe who resolved the immediate difficulty the Hertz desk clerk was unwilling to even consider. The only area in which I could see room for improvement is in the complaint website. There are no spaces for extraordinary cases and the complaint cannot be submitted if the mandatory fields are not filled. "
