The U-bahn line is U1 - this will take you directly to Stephansplatz in central Vienna. Within walking distance you can also find Tram Line D (Hauptbahnhof Ost) which has great connections. Reaching Tram Line D is simple via platforms 3 - 12 via section E. The train station has multiple entrances, the northern side, western side and a smaller eastern side entrance. The main northern entrance is the closest to Vienna city centre.
Vienna is divided into districts that are logically numbered. Each district employs its own parking rules. It is important to familiarise yourself with the district parking regulations where you plan to stay, or visit with your car. District 1 - 9 and 20, are primarily short-stay parking zones. These operate from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 22:00. Bank holidays not included. A ticket must be purchased if you wish to park here. In District 12, 14 to 19, short-stay parking is also the norm, with times of operation Monday to Friday, 09:00 until 19:00.
Vienna Stadthalle (District 15) - short-stay parking spaces are available and operate 7-days per week. Monday to Friday, 09:00 until 22:00, Saturdays, Sundays and even public holidays, 18:00 until 22:00. You must have a valid parking ticket during these times. Failure to do so, will result in a fine or a tow. The fine will be sent to you with an administration fee added by the supplier.
Parking garages are available across the city, these are normally open every day, 24-hours per day. They are secure, and in most cases protected by CCTV. These can be primarily found in Freyung, Weihburggasse, Am Morzinplatz (Franz-Josefs-Kai), Rathauspark (Ring/Stadiongasse), Operngarage (Kärntner Strasse 51), Am Hof, Beethovenplatz 3 and Cobdengasse 2. Lastly, park-&-ride schemes exist just outside the city. Here you can park your vehicle and catch public transport that will take you directly to central Vienna with minimum hassle.
