    Station Information

    Parisian train stations have many charms and delights for visitors due largely to the fact that they are housed inside very historic buildings and situated in close proximity to many of the city's star attractions. Together they provide an excellent network of rail links throughout the capital's environs and the whole of France in general, with regular connections to and from many popular international destinations. For instance, the Gare de Saint-Lazare caters for approximately 250,000 passenger movements every day, thus making it the second-busiest railway station in the city after the famous Gare du Nord. Designed by Juste Lisch, Saint-Lazare Train Station offers rail connections to the Normandy region and the entire north-west of the country via the Paris-Le Havre railway.

    Inaugurated in 1840, and moved to its current location in 1969, Paris Gare de Montparnasse Train Station provides an important high-speed TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) link to both the western and south-western areas of France. It also has a metro station and offers passengers several regional suburban services, as well as some of the city's most popular train connections to Rennes, Nantes, Tours and Bordeaux, etc. This main train station is the only one not connected to the RER (Réseau Express Régional) network, which belongs to RATP and SNCF.

    With around 222 million passengers a year, Paris Gare du Nord Train Station is by far the busiest railway hub in Paris and a a tourist attraction in its own right. Designed by Jacques Hittorff and opened in 1864, it connects the regions north of Paris via the popular Paris-Lille line, along with a number of international routes to Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom (via EuroStar) and the Netherlands. It also provides connections to Paris' extensive metro system, as well as the city's regular RER and bus services.

    As one of the oldest train stations in the French capital, Paris Gare de l'Est offers excellent connections on both the Paris-Mulhouse line and the Paris-Strasbourg lines. Facing Boulevard de Strasbourg, this attractive railway station is well located on the city's north-south axis first developed by the renowned urban planner, Georges-Eugene Haussmann.

    With around 90 million passengers a year, Paris Gare de Lyon is another of the busiest train stations in Paris, and the third most popular in the whole of France. With connections to the south of France (in particular Lyon), it is located on the north bank of the River Seine and, in addition to its regional RER service and vital metro connection, the station also provides high-speed TGV services to Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

    Visitors planning to take the kids to Disneyland Paris should head for Paris Gare de Chessy which is the theme park's main link to the French capital due to the TGV train station located inside Disneyland itself. Inaugurated in 1992, Paris Gare de Chessy is located 30 kilometres east of the city and combines TGV services with local RER passenger services.

    Offering regular RER services, Paris Gare de Neuilly-Porte Maillot is located in the city's 17th district and operates a C suburban rail link. Located in district 7, Paris Gare des Invalides provides passenger services for the RER on line C, along with links to lines 8 and 13 of the Paris metro system. The station takes its name from the famous hotel nearby - Hotel National des Invalides.

    Located on the left bank of the River Seine, Paris Gare d'Austerlitz is the sixth-largest train station in the French capital and offers regular services to Bordeaux and Toulouse, as well as international TGV connections to Barcelona.
