" When I booked my car rental with Thrifty, the system asked me the arrival time of my flight. I entered 23h40 (arriving from Portugal). The system DID ACCEPT my booking. Unfortunately, my flight was delayed by 20 min. When we eventually arrived at the Hertz / Thrifty counter, it was closed. There was a sign saying that for late arrivals, we have to walk down to the garage. However, that office was also closed with no one around. There was a sign with a phone number to contact. We tried a million times but no one picked up. We eventually took a taxi and arrived at 2H in the morning. The next day, it was a nightmare to find a human being to speak to. It took 2 hours of non-stop calling to speak to a person. They explained that their offices at the airport closes at 23h30. So, why did their system accept my booking in the first place?? Anyway, the person on the phone told me that, in order to collect my car, I should find my own way (taxi, train, metro) ON MY EXPENSE to one of their offices to collect the car. I eventually collected my car the next day at 18h (1 day too late). On the return of my car 5 days later, I complained wanted a refund for the 1 missing day. They said it was impossible because our flight arrived late and that we should have at their offices by 23h30 the latest. Needless to say, I won't book them ever again. "

" I had a problem whereby I was able to book a car from Brussels Airport *but* I couldn't actually do it since I live in Belgium and therefore did not have an air flight ticket. I had to cancel my existing booking (not even being sure it would be fully reimbursed) and make a new booking from a different pick-up location. This should be better explained on Auto Europe website. As an additional minor comment, I could pick the car up from Avis in Ixelles but the website forced me to return it to a different location (because they're closed on Sunday). However, Avis allows you to return it on Sunday at no extra cost (which I eventually did). "

" I was advised not to rent a car in Europe and know I know why. Driving in the larger cities is very challenging. Narrow streets, street name signs are not where you can see them as you approach the intersection. Tall buildings block your view so. It is impossible to see where you are. Navigation apps though not perfect are imperative. "

Also, there were additional fees (theft and protection waiver fees, license plate...) and one way fees (the only additional fees that I expected based on your contract). To know how much they would charge my credit card, they took the amount I paid to AutoEurope minus the VAT. Then they added all the lines and then removed the amount I already paid to AutoEurope (minus VAT) and here was my new bill, on which they added some VAT. What about the VAT I already paid to AutoEurope?? So I paid 170€ to AutoEurope and then was debited without my authorization another 100€ from Hertz for 1 day rental.... This is totally abusive and unprofessional. I will report this company to the European Customer Protection center as I am shocked of how they treat their customers. "

" When I arrived at the airport for car pick up, I went to the Hertz counter. There was nobody present but there was a notice to go directly to the pick up area. No issue, I had to collect the car from that area anyway. As soon as I arrived, the employee told me that I should have waited at the counter instead of going to the pick up area. I explained that I was simply following instructions. He appeared annoyed and said something in his own language to his colleagues, which I do not understand. He still carried out the paperwork, but there was no friendly smiles. I find this is not the way to treat customers. When booking the car, through auto-europe , the fuel policy was clearly stated as "pickup full and return full". I complied with this requirement and returned the car with a full fuel tank. I fully refuelled the car just 20 minutes away from the airport but was then charged €79.32 for fuel and service. It was not possible to have used that amount of fuel in such a short time. "

" i have been using Auto Europe for at least 15 years and i was shocked and surprised about the lack of customer service for a company that is in the industry of providing service. Although Auto Europe cannot be blamed for any flight delay, but it will not be the first time and it surely won't be the last time that a car rental at the airport needs to be amended or so due to flight cancellations or delays. My flight was cancelled 2 times by the airline and then on the 3rd attempt I was denied boarding (due to the plane being overbooked) and then had to fly to another airport. A bit of flexibility would have been appreciated, especially when the rental company (sixt) was cooperative, even though i have never ever used the service of Sixt before (either direct or through Auto Europe). So kudo's to Sixt and a big ZERO to Auto Europe "

This in sharp contrast to the AutoEurope, who just send a message they could not do anything because of no cancellations or changes possible within 48 hours prior to arrival. No matter what, it was non negotiable, whereas Sixt was willing to assist any way and form. But could not change the booking because of it was made by Auto Europe. So a big plus for Sixt and a big NEGATIVE for Auto Europe. "

Europcar is sending me mails and don`t want to listen to any reasonable explanation, they hold me responsible for the damage even when I had returned the keys before the damage occured at their parking lot! They are sending me mails in my Flemish mother tongue languiage that are not understandable. Bill is passed to me of 144 euro of damage that occured after I returned the car and the keys, I can`t be helded responsible what is happening with the car after the keys are returned and the rental contract is terminated! The inside of the ADAM OPEL windscreen was cloudy, the glove box was full of manuals for kitchen appliances, and there was no parking disc in the car! There was also no diagram of the car showing the various pre-existent damages:- various scratches, a bent number plate and a small windscreen crack. The rather rude person who rented out our car most likely knew this as he wanted us to rent a more expensive VW car at a higher price. He also tried to make us buy excess cover and saying that only EUROPCAR excess cover works and claiming that AUTO EUROPE does not refund the excess if you need to claim "REFUNDABLE EXCESS WITH SUPER COVER". When we walked the very long distance to the office to inform the man that there were undocumented damages, he told us to send photos and did not leave the back office. He refused to acknowledge the auto europe voucher and when I called auto europe and passed him the phone he refused to listen. Eventually his colleague had to intervene and suddenly the insurance coverage was found and I didn't need to pay anything. This was a really shameful ploy on the part of budget. I had booked Mercedes Benz C200 Automatic and according to the voucher I was provided with, the primary driver needs to present one credit card in their name at the car pick up. Only when I arrived at the pick up, I was told I will need to have 2 credit cards in my name - which was not mentioned anywhere when I made the booking. Further to that, my MasterCard Gold was accepted, but Hertz refused to accept my VISA Business as the second card, nor did they accept my wife's American Express Gold. If we were informed that 2 credit cards will be required, this problem would not have occurred at all. AutoEurope customer service line was not reachable at 11pm at night. "
