My case: arriving with easyJet in Pula, flights was delayed because of weather conditions in Europe maybe by 1.5hrs. Although ABR rent office in Pula airport was open and is were there regular working times, they wanted to charge me roughly 250,- EUR extra on top of a 34,- EUR car reservation because I showed up 'late'. I told them, this is unacceptable and this is a scam, but they told me these are the company rules. I mean that a flight is delayed it can always happen, this happens all the time. And when I indicate an approximate time when to pick up the car it's a best guess if everything works fine. If this approximate pickup time is within their regular working hours a later pickup should be always possible without any extra fees. I mean the person from ABC rental could not even explain me what type or why this extra charge of roughly 250,- EUR is charged. They have not logical reason why extra service fees are being charged and just try to scam tourists, you can try 1 out of ten tourist is maybe excepting this. So I ended up refusing the charge, refusing the whole rental of 34,- EUR and lost this money and had on a short term basis rent with another car rental. What we learn? always take big car rental chains, no 'no name' rentals and never ever ABC rent. " I have 2 comments about the rental: 1) When dropping off the car everything happened so fast that we forgot something in the car, there wasn't any time to look around the car, the guy was rushing to drop us off at the airport and head back 2) The seat for the baby was very dirty The pick up and drop off location is not in front of the airport, but the staff came and picked us up and dropped us off on our way back. " They charged a ridiculous €75 for crossing the border (which you have to do to get to Dubrovnik and is just an easy cashgrab). When we picked up the car the card machine wasn't working. They also wanted us to pay in kuna's (we didn't have enough euros on us) with a rate of 7.67 per euro. The rate was 7.37 at the bank at that point, so that rate of 7.67 is excessively high. When dropping the car off, we couldn't split the bill between euros and kuna's. We later also learned that some other company's don't have the €75 border crossing fee. "

We had to buy an expensive green card (84,- EUR) for crossing the boarder to Serbia Montenegro, but nobody was checking the card on the boarder (3 times) and we heart that the green card was much cheaper at other rental car provider and even at the boarder. They used the fact that my parents are speaking beginner level English and fluent Russian and charged them 125 EUR for "damage" which did not occur and they threatened to call police unless they pay. When blocking a certain amount of money (deposit) on my credit card I got a receipt. But as it was not unblocked by the employee in the very moment we returned the car nowI got no proof of when or if the deposit is or will be unblocked again.
