The office was closed, their customer support person was very rude, I felt discriminated. They just sent me away without a car which I payed for!!! I talked to Autoeurope customer support, and she was kind and tried to help and find a solution which was a quite complicated one(finding another car on Christmas 2nd day). I stayed in the wind and cold for 2 hours and got ill. After 2 hours we got on the phone another Hertz customer support who helped us after taking several pictures of me, my Id card and my Credit card. Again, very frustrating and discriminating "

" I've never rented a car in this manner before. Despite there being no other customers in sight it took nearly an hour from arrival to collect the car. When the staff had processed all my documents they simply pointed to a multi story car park. When I received the car it was dirty and wet inside. I tried to phone the staff to inform them of the poor state of the car and was unable to get through to them. I drove to where I was staying and the other passengers were shocked at the condition of the vehicle. They immediately started to clean the vehicle whilst I again rang the desk. I got through but they said there was nothing they could do. Dropping off the car was slightly confusing as they had not informed me where to put it. I have still not had any contact to say they received the car, that they are happy with the condition or when I will get my deposit back. Very poor service. "

" When checking the car before dep, i noticed a smell of something lemon / citrus and i thought it was the rest of cleaning / re-cond liquid they been using to clean the car after previous renter. I went to pick up a family member who is allergic to cats, she gets into the car and after a few minutes, she starts to show reactions of having an allergic reaction (sneezing, running eyes etc). That got worse and i had to send her back home again. Upon further examination of the car, we realized that the smell was coming from the cargo area (Volvo V60 wagon) and our guess is that some previous renter had been transporting cats and the smell was cat urine. As i had family plans for the rest of the weekend involving the person above, i went back to the rental agency the following day (21 Sept) with the intention of exchanging the car. Met Hertz rep, Mr Axel (did not get his surname) who sat in the backseat for a few seconds, then concluded that there is no cat urine smell and that i will not get another car. I argued the persons reaction as above, i had rented another Volvo the previous weekend from the same rental office that did not have this smell, but his reply was still "no, i will not get another car". His final comment was "do i still want the car?". I found that question quite odd but as i had plans for the remaining weekend, I could not return the car, lose the remaining rental cost and rent another car from other agency. My mistake was that i should have notified the rental agency immediately before leaving the airport but i thought that the smell will eventually go away. I have been using Hertz at Bromma airport the last 6-7 years and i have always met friendly and service minded people. However, my experience above says i need to consider other agencies. Note also that Hertz parking area had several other cars of the same model so there was surely replacements available. Also, refuse an exchange when my reason is clearly medical, i find that outrageous. "

" During the above scenario I called helpline for AutoEurope and agent told me that I cannot do anything - I cannot transfer rental to a hire firm who would accept my scanned license. That I would lose my money and I could do nothing about it. That was very sad and disappointing. It put me and my family in human danger as we had no means for travel without car. Please advise how you should improve your services to not give your customer a potential heart attack when he realizes he forgot or lost his driver license but had a copy? "

They would not budge even though I had a family of 5. Not in the least bit helpful from both sides and a serious loss of money until through desperation I had to call someone in the ministry who provided ratification authenticity for scan of my driving license which I got as an email sent from my transport ministry of Malta government. PLease tell me what you can do to circumvent such a human error from causing the amount of stress I went through in the 3 hours after I arrived? Also once this was finally settled by that email Thrifty/Hertz agent was then 100% absolutely courteous and very professional and gave me a great car and the expected service. I am very disappointed to have gone through that and I wonder is there any way we can avoid such an accidental mishap from happening?
