I quickly sent an email to the customer service to request a cancellation or just a change of date just after the payment of the rental because my wife started to have heavier contractions and the answer was just; "you should have read the terms before you book it, our policy requires 48h for cancellation. We can't do anything." This is what I have received, a very dry, unhelpful, unfriendly answer. This is my last ever rental with Auto Europe and I will never recommend you to my family or friends. There's way more prestigious, honest and friendly companies out there with far better policies and providing a more sympathetic and real helpful service to their customers not just thinking about collecting their money and seeing them as just numbers, not a possible satisfied customer that will come back for their services. " First time with Europcar in Amsterdam - normally I choose other providers but they had a discount. Check in process was slow - had to wait for a long time in line at the first desk and then again at the carpark desk to get the car. Requested car was not available. Car received had a lot of previous damage. Check in staff were dismissive of previous damages that I wanted to note down (never had this problem with Hertz or others before!). It took about 1.5 hours from arrival to leaving with the car. On return, despite the prior damages noted on nearly all panels, the staff receiving the car found a very small scratch which I had taken a prior photo of (dismissed by the check in staff). They said I might get an email about it, but keep the paperwork just in case. Not sure why it could not be solved right then when I had the evidence. This left a sour taste in my mouth and I have been wondering if I am up for a battle about getting the security deposit back - something I have never had an issue with in the past, and I've rented around a dozen cars last year with other providers. " Never had any problems with Hertz all over Europe, but had a horrible experience with Hertz at Schiphol airport. We were given a smaller car than what we originally booked and made to pay for a downgrade. Simply unbelievable. Originally reserved a Toyota Corolla Estate (with a boot capacity of 590 litres) as luggage space was very important for us. On collection we were informed that no estates whatsoever were available and instead we were given a Jeep Renegade with a 330 litres boot space, almost half what we had hoped for. This of course did not fit us and we were then offered a Lynk&Co 1 vehicle with a boot space of 466 litres. Although this was still 25% smaller than the estate we had reserved, we still managed to squeeze in. To add insult to injury we were advised that we shall pay an upgrade fee of €100 (for 5 days), and miraculously after the car was returned we ended up receiving an even higher bill of €152. Speechless!! "

Hunted for vehicle with GPS, offered us a minivan, which we declined. He then found an Aygo with GPS, helped us set it up, and we were finally on our way after losing over 2 hours. They did waive the extra driver fee to offset our inconvenience. The car was great, wish they'd given that to us first. "

Unfortunately, With great disappointment I have received the email with Europcar's invoice for the whole Amount of the excess of 700euro. That morning of the 29th of August, me and my wife checked thoroughly the car, and from the pictures I have, there was nothing on the body work. No scratches, dents etc. But even if you found something, where are the pictures to prove it ? This is unfair, and apart from the fact that I liked the car, Europcar (Autoeurope) did not show a nice face to me. I don't know what to say. 1. You freezed more than 800 euro in my card finding it difficult to live around with my family of 5, for 11 days. You should inform your customers beforehand about these hidden costs of freezed insurance money and huge excess, at the time of booking, and not at the time of receiving the car at the airport. 2. " I know you can never guarantee a specific car type, but in this case the car I received was simply not suited for my use case. I booked the Opel Grandland category because I needed 3 individual back seats. The car I got didn't have that and therefore was useless. "
" This rental was entirely unsatisfactory for me and a waste of money, if I don't get a reimbursement. I booked the SUV category where an Opel Grandland is shown as an example. The Grandland has 3 individual backseats which is what I needed to fit 2 child seats and an adult. Instead I got a Kia Niro which has a back bench and it's impossible to fit 2 child seats and third person, although the person at the desk assured me there was enough space. So I ended up not using the car at all (check the mileage which was just from the station to home and back again). Unfortunately the station was closed and therefore it was impossible to swap for another car. "

" I've always had good experiences with auto Europe and use them about three times a year. I was disappointed that the complete return information was not correct when I booked the rental and the additional charge for parking made me consider using a new service next time. "
" Generally good, except the location closed at 16:30 on the Monday we returned and we were told if we returned after that time we should park on the street, pay the meter and use the key Dropbox. Paying the meter was an additional 24€. Someone from your office did call to make sure we knew the situation once we were on the road, but this policy doesn't make me happy about Avis or auto Europe. This policy should be clearly written in the contract so customers can make a better judgement of which rental company to choose based on their circumstances. I won't be eager to use Avis for future rentals. "

" Very nice staff, but be very careful on insurance, car models, and where you're driving. Also note the pick up point for the car is about 5-10 mins walk from the Sixt counter in the station - not a problem for most people I assume, though if there are lots of people picking up at once I imagine there could be a delay. On insurance, it may be better to buy from autoeurope. But in any case skim the policy before you collect the car. We just got the standard one (with a 950euro excess) through autoeurope, and were told at the Sixt counter that the excess is *per damage*. So if there are four damages the excess is 4 * 950. They wanted to add on 400euros or so to reduce the excess to zero (including windows and tyres which they said weren't included). When I asked how they knew the insurance policy of Autoeurope (I think I'd bought their insurance, rather than buying Sixt insurance through them, but I may be wrong), they said they were just talking about Sixt insurance. So the moral of the story seems to be decide what insurance you want in advance and buy in advance from Autoeurope, not from the Sixt counter. In terms of car models, they didn't have the car I'd reserved, and wanted to (in practice) downgrade, although they said it was in the same category. They were nice and found a similar car in the end, but that was I think just luck. Re countries to travel to, they mentioned that certain models (generally German cars) aren't allowed to go to some countries in Eastern Europe for insurance reasons. I stupidly didn't check the full list and didn't realise how long the list was - make sure you do. That all said, staff were nice. Drop off is very quick/efficient and they seem to just check for significant damage not anything minor (not that we caused any minor damage, but was interesting how different the pick up and drop off damage checks were). "

Although staff there were as helpful as they could, they struggled with the computer system. Similarly, when I tried to extend the rental first on the site, then by phone, and then in person at a rental station, system issues prevented me from doing so online or over the phone and the (again: very helpful) staff at the station had to struggle with a number of systems issues. I understand that this is not a normal situation, and that should be all the more reason to have the online systems work as they should. "

Me and my wife planned a whole weekend in the northen part of the Netherlands, and when I arrived to pick up the car I was told that they run out of cars, and they simply can't do anything about it. I was also told the reason is that they did not get the cars the were soposed to, and told me they new about it since 8pm the day before - why nobody took the time to inform us about it?! Our whole weekened was canceled becuase of it and we even didn't get our miney back yet! "

Details re getting to Corendon Hotel should have been provided with the booking info. At the hotel it was difficult to find Goldcar office. When booking the vehicle your website asked me to state if I would be travelling outside oh Holland. I replied yes and specified France, Belgium, possibly Germany. The site, having obtained that information then gave me a final quote of €576 or so. When I arrived at Goldcars office and eventually got to be served I was handed a travel zone card and was promptly asked for an additional €135 as I was travelling outside of Holland. What a scam this is. I tried to fight me case re when I made the booking I had already specified this and had then been given a final price......but I just got bored looks from the staff member. Heard all this before kinda attitude. When I collected the vehicle, the fuel indicator needle was at the top limit. Noted. So, to return the vehicle I was looking to ensure the same level. I filled the tank up to the brim at a station near Schipol only to note that the indicator was a few stripes below the full level. Therefore from Goldcar, I went to the nearest fuel garage and topped up the tank to the brim. Again the indicator refused to move to the top despite the fact that the fuel was visible at the petrol cap! At the car return I explained this situation to a staff member who simply said oh, the petrol gauges sometimes get stuck. Again at the return point, I and other customers were left standing waiting for far too long. "

I send an email to Auto Europe how I can claim the 80Euro. as per previous experience when car is not available rental company has to provide you another car on their cost and client should not pay. " Auto Europe was a great way to go for renting a car! Easy online booking, pickup and return! The only problem we had was the gps system. It took us on every small road, through small villages - no matter what settings we put it on! We saw a lot of beautiful and quaint places, but had to miss some of our planned destinations because it took twice as long to get there! One person told us it is set up that way because the freeways are so busy and they are trying to keep excess traffic off of them. Had to use google maps on our phones, but didn't always have service so had to rely on the car's navigation system. Other than that we had a great little car to drive! "

Upon arrival at the location the car rental said that the booking was cancelled and has not been rebooked. I have spent 1 hour back and forth to get my case sorted. wasting too much of my time. I dont mind if autoeurope cant get the reservation done however I have received the confirmation from them that all things are sorted. Really pissed with this company. " At the desk the staff member offered us an insurance upgrade (full covarage) for 80 Euro. Otherwise he would have blocked 1.250 Euros of my account. I have never seen an amount so high with other car rent companies. The car was upgraded as well after paying the 80 Euros and 90 more Euros have been blocked. There were 3 damages on the car before we took it. After bringing it back the guy who checked it said there had been one new damage on the engine hood. Actually it was an app. one inch long "scratch". Obviously I had nothing to do with it. A scratch so tiny and futile could be skipped whenever they want and then tell the next client to pay the damages. Quite a ridiculous thing. Without the full coverage we would have payed 170 Euros for the "scratch"!!! For a damage the could not have been proved by the slightest way.... The only reason I payed the 80 Euros at the beginning was the 1.250 Euros blocking threat. Very unfair procedure. Will not recommend Budget to anyone. "

" We arrived to pick up our car at noon, only 2 hours after the planned pick up time. And it had been given away. We therefore had to wait for another car in the same class. When it finally arrived 1 hour later, it was dirty. The checkout person and myself did a very quick check and we left as we were now extremely late. When we returned the car 2 days later, we were told there was damage on the underside of the front right bumper. I did NOT cause this damage. It must have been there before we left, but because the car was dirty and we were in a hurry, we didn't note it. I now have to pay for this damage which I am grossly unhappy about. After 5 emails and 3 phone calls, they reviewed the damage and have charged 100 euros (as opposed to 350) and waived the admin fee. This is a compromise, however I am still VERY unhappy that I am being blamed for damage. "

" Dollar is not located where most car rental companies are. I rent very often and I went directly to this area and then I've found out that Dollar has a separate building. Problems with Dollar 1-Auto Europe email and web don't indicate correctly where Dollar is located and how to get there. You need to take a Dollar shuttle at the airport and this is very poorly indicated by signs. 2-Shuttle don't have a very good frequency or airport traffic jam might impact, so you need to arrive with plenty of time in order to avoid the shuttle delay affect your timing to pick it up. " We think that a full story in previous section is enough to understand why we put only 7 for our final score. Our trip was very difficult due to the quality of the car preparation. We think we deserve a 19 euro refund for the oil and compensation for the spoiled trip. "
" Getting the car was fine and friendly but when we tried to find out about the level of oil in the engine, a guy who gave us the car did not show the location of the oil button and did not check the oil. After a total of about 100 km "we started hearing a noise from an motor. We hardly reached Leiden and contacted a technical support. Although there were problems with a ring to us, officials were very patient and tried to help(a special thanks to Fiona). A mechanic who arrived in the morning the next day discovered that there was no oil in the motor at all. As we were told, he was not a member of EUROPCAR and therefore we had to pay 19 euros. After that a noise of the motor was stopped and we were able to continue our trip. But after about 150 km, we heard a noise from the motor again, even though we checked and the oil was fine. With this noise we got to a petrol station at the airport to fill a few liters of petrol. Although twice before we added a fuel, at this station the fuel indikator did not display that the tank is full. When we started driving, suddenly everything became OK. We received excellent attitude to us from a chief manager at an airport. "

" I have booked the car with my name and as I do not have credit I have used my friend credit card and also I went with him to pick car. But in the counter while picking car mentioned that they wont deliver car as driver does no hold credit card. I called auto Europe twice to cancel my booking and even requested to provide alternative to change driver name to my friend name but customer care did not helped in any way and I lost money and even not used car. The rental car was registered in Belgium, although we were not advised of this, so emergency contact information with the key was Belgian number and we could not reach it with our Netherlands cellphone service. Wasted half a day just trying to reach Dollar to get emergency assistance for the flat tire. No spare.Then when car was returned we were charged Euros 105 for the flat tire. "

" When renting the car, we paid for the full coverage through Europcar on the site. When taking the car, we were told that if there is any reason for the coverage, we must first pay the rental company i.e. Alamo and then claim the money back from Europcar and there is a 750Eu deductable. If we would have taken the full coverage directly from the car rental agency when picking up the car, there is no deductible and we do not have to pay for anything. I requested a full refund on the full coverage and did not receive any word from the company as of today. In order for us to be fully covered and not pay anything, we took the additional full coverage (the same rate as on the site). I highly recommend that people should not pay full coverage "

This time I had a health issue and was unable to catch my flight. As a result, I had to book another flight one week later. I also wanted to extend my car rental by 1 week. I simply phoned up EuropCar to ask if I could extend my rental period by a week, and they said it was no problem. They took a small amount from the deposit and they said I was done.
