" Horrible experience that caused me grief on my holiday and incurred unnecessary expenses in lost tour, extra payment for gas and wasted a full day of my holiday. The car was old and the battery died soon after. I drove the car to the hotel. Hertz sent a contractor to jump start the car and would charged 750 peso (40 euro) from my deposit. We were to visit the Pyramid of the Sun and made reservations for that. We ended up waiting 3 hours for the jump start then drive to another hertz location to exchange for another car. We drove a total of 19 km from the pickup airport but they insist that we used over 10 litres of gas and would charge us 450 peso (24 euro). We fought for half hour and ended up taking the broken car to a gas station to fill the fast to the same level as shown on the petro gauge as we took it out which cost probably 75 peso (4 euro). We insist the gauge is wrong and demanded that we should pay base on the mileage and gas consumption. A normal 4x4 should take no more than 2 litres to travel 19 km. The distance from the airport to the hotel is only 12 km and the other 7 km is to drive to their shop to change car! We struggle from 7 am to 12:30 pm and lost our tickets to the Pyramid tour and wasted over half days to sort out a dead battery problem. They don't look after their fleet and let the customers drive the car to the ground then repair at the customers time and inconvenience plus wanting to charge for the repair. I ALSO purchased full bumper to bumper insurance but was told I still have to leave a deposit and liable for any damage or theft and should that happens, I have to claim whatever they charge from AutoEurope. They want to sell their additional insurance to me using scare tactics. "

" We were not able to rent our car, very rude lady at the counter tried to force us to buy additional insurance, also she claimed that Autoeuropa will not provide us refund (for which we payed in case of an emergency. She was lying that additional insurance is mandatory according to Mexican law even tough it was written opposite in terms and conditions. Later she somehow approved the fact that we will not pay more so instead she wants to block 3 times higher amount on our credit without any logic explanation. After huge argue we found that if we will not allow her block this amount we will not receive this car so we agreed. She said our card is not working, we called our bank and confirmed that we have needed amount on it and that we are not blocked (we used this card many times during our stay and never faced issue). Mex denied releasing car for us as they were not able to block our credit due to some kind of an error (they said that our bank denied transaction, our bank confirmed that there is not a single request visible so problem was on rental company side). We found this is as a scam when they said they may not charge our credit if we will pay this additional insurance... Car never received, terrible service. "

" If possible avoid to book with Firefly . Our plane arrived late at Cancun at 23:00 and we have set the pick up time of the car at 23:30 . When i realised the long queue at immigration i tried calling Firefly at the number provided by AutoEurope to notify them that we were delayed at immigration but nobody replied but an answer machine. I called twice and wait for someone to answer for about 5 minutes but nobody did . When we managed to get out from the airport at 12:30 there was nobody in the counter of firefly but a sign to go to the parking lot . When we reached there we could not find any representative of the company and after 10 minutes a mini bus showed up with the Firefly sign . We showed the reservation to the driver that called the office and told us that our reservation was CANCELLED due to the fact that we found the representative 20 minutes after the deadline and that they gave the car (it is still a question to whom they gave the car at 1:00 in the morning) . The representative came to meet us after another 15 minutes of waiting with an attitude and told us that this is how it is . However they had only two cars available but we had to pay an extra to the price we already prepaid as this will be considered a new reservation . I told them that i tried to called them and showed the proof from my phone log but they told me that AutoEurope provided the wrong number to us . Also please note that according to them AutoEurope does not provide all the details of the clients reservations ( i.e phone number , flight number etc ). As you can understand this company took advantage of our necessity of having a car for our holidays , claimed that we were delayed for 20 minutes and although they had car availability and did not actually gave the car they made us pay an extra of 400 euros to get a car of the same category as the one reserved !! It was a very bad experience so my recommendation to everyone is always to contact the rental companies and make sure you have the right phone number prior your travels so that these people will not have an excuse to take advantage of you . " I am very disappointed and I feel cheated by the practices of Hertz. When I collected my vehicle, the agent informed me that it would be cheaper for me if I got Hertz to refill the tank upon return at around $18 instead of $22 per litre, which is what petrol stations normally charge. The agent was very pushy about this but I told him I wasn't interested in this offer since I first wanted to verify he was telling the truth about the price difference. I later discovered that there was indeed a price difference between what Hertz offered and what was the current price at petrol stations and I therefore decided to return the car with a half full tank to take advantage of this offer. Only when I checked out was I actually informed that this price was only applied when charging me for a full tank, which ended up costing me much more than what I would have paid on the street. These sort of practices are absolutely unacceptable and I demand this to be rectified. Hertz did not explain to me the details of this offer when I picked up the car and I feel they took advantage of my tiredness after a 18 hour journey from Amsterdam to Mexico. " Very disappointed. We got screwed into a full extra insurance for 1250 peso $ when picking up the car. I booked our car with AutoEurope with the full insurance. It turned out the 'full' insurance means 90% coverage. So when we picked up the car the pick-up lady confirmed with us that we had the full insurance. She never ever mentioned any of the costs she was adding to out contract so we did not expect any extra costs. They just made us sigh the form. At drop-of, the very same day, the drop of clerk told me the amount we had to pay extra for the insurance! We tried to argue that we had full insurance with the reservation but since we signed their form Hertz told us we agreed to these costs by signing their form! No costs were mentioned or agreed on at pick-up so we were very surprised. I am very disappointed with this Hertz practice. They cannot make you sign a contract without mentioning the costs and this is what they did. This is not legal practice and will file an official complaint. "

After leaving late and driving for 10 min we realised that there was no water at all for cleaning the windscreen. We then rang the local office to arrange a quick and easy fix. We spoke to an agent who was not helpful and did not offer any solution (she did not even take our details). She could have just offered to reimburse the price of a can of windscreen liquid. The drop off took longer than expected. The agent did not have a copy of the original "release document". "

So we have to manage with a Honda Odissey, a suburban car... Not exactly what we hope to have : Our purpose was to go deep in the Mayan jungle. With that kind of car , it was impossible. And to be complete, they was suppose to call us as soon as they get back a free JEEP. 2 days max, as they said. We are still waiting for the call. " wonderful professional service thanks during booking in Europe it is more complicated reaching the agent once you are in travel status as diffetent people deal with your problem. They insist per email on calling them by phone which from overseas is very costly. We had an issue with Hertz as their phone lines were down and wanted Auto Europe to reach them for us via email this seemed impossible for Auto Europe . Seems your email system is not very flexible "
" Both stations in Cancun for collecting and pick up were very professional transactions went fast and smooth Two days before rental started Hertz Cancun was not accessible for one day due to telephone problems that was scary and would have been a problem eg you need the agent due to an accident, but otherwise everything went perfect and easy. We got an upgrade at no extra charge and the car was almost new. "
