" We rented a car for our 5-day trip. Getting the car went smoothly. When we got the car I noticed that the car clock was blinking which made me a bit suspicious. Usually that is a sign that the battery was disconnected in the past or below a certain level. Each day we did a short trip somewhere and return home in the evening (did 167 km in 5 days). Our problem started on the pre-last day around 7pm. We parked the car and stopped the engine (after 30 km of driving). After that we wanted to move the car for another 0.5 meters to be parked closer to the car in front. The engine wouldn't start. There was just a clicking sound, indicating that the battery was empty. We called the office. I told them that the battery was dead and that the car is properly parked. No tow car was needed. They suggested us to send the support only if we pay for it. Without paying, nothing would be done. The cost 100 EUR. The tow car appeared one hour later. The driver connected the booster battery and the car started. He suggested me to drive to the airport to get a new battery. After checking with the office, he told me that the office is closed and that the problem will be solved in the morning. He told me to stop the engine. The following day nobody came or contacted us. I had to call again. Another person will come with a new battery if I pay for it. Cost around 300 EUR (it turned out to be 275). All my question why I need to pay for the battery were ignored. When I wanted to complain, they just handed me an email address and said to complaint through the email. This is definitely the worst rental car company. I would suggest that you stop working with them. BTW: While waiting to get my car, there were several other customers complaining about various "damage costs" which were fake. "

When I talked with Auto Europe I was explained that Auto Europe can't do anything for bad service in Malta as you have a global deal with Budget. When I didn't get the car from the other Budget office as I didn't want to receive it without checking for the damages Budget told me that I can't cancel the contract as it was done through Auto Europe and you told me that I couldn't cancel it because it was already charged and I should have cancelled 48 hours before. How does one cancel 48 hours before when one does not get the vehicle as agreed is beyond my logic. "

It is not the biggest of issues but it is quite annoying to fill the tank to half its level as opposed to fill it in full. I also got quite annoyed that I was asked to sing the check-in sheet, including the confirmation of assessment of the damages (e.g. scratches) already present on the car without even seeing it. I was told to take pictures, but I think it would make sense if the client is first allowed to inspect the car and assess if all damages are reported on the sheet. In fact, when I inspected the care I noticed that many of the scratches on the car were not marked properly on the check in sheet. Those issues apart, the car was of good quality and had no trouble with it. The check out process was very quick as well. "

" We had no chance to get what we paid for. It's like you are refused to fly, when you have a flight ticket, I think therefore Autoeurope should pay a fine. We paid and reserved nearly 2 month earlier, and nothing was arranged. It's a shame. I have hip implants and was unable to sit into the driving position without twisting my implants. Therefore I suffered an injury at a point. I cannot work for a week. I sent a letter to Autoeurope for helping us, but the only answer was to send a claim. I sent it cca. 10 days ago, but have no answer till today. I had a deep disappointment in the company. "
" Actually it was Hertz. We proceeded to the counter, where they told they had no car, that we reserved. No compact size, no automatic gears. Instead they offered a refund of 16 (!) Eur or the smallest car they had (Hyundai i10), manual. We argued, but the only chance was to take the papers of the small car. At the parking lot there were 10-15 cars mainly bigger ones. I asked the garage master for updating to our default order, what he accepted and changed the car for a KIA compact automatic car. But before we left he asked us to leave the car, because it was rented by someone else. WE ALSO RENTED A CAR!!! So we had to unpack and repack to into the Hyundai i10. The car was not so old, but had dozens of scratches and damages. Only a few was signed on the original damage report. The man signed te damages on the report, that we realized. But later on we had to know that not all the damages were signed in all papers... When we returned the car they checked carefully and signed the contract, telling everything was OK. we were leaving the spot and the man stopped us, that they have an accident report for this licence plate (!!!). What? Nothing happened to us, we had cover of excess from Autoeurope, so we had nothing to hide. Here we learned that the damage reports are not equals. That was a nightmare. We were really fed up from this company. Finally I asked them to show all the previous damage reports of the car for the last month and they let us leave. Do you think they were correct? That company is cheating the customers. I would suggest Autoeurope to cut all business connections to those two (Hertz and Thrifty) Maltese company. "

Mentioned as last point of what not included in the rental agreement there was the obligation to pay for the fuel returning the tank empty. In 5 dayst in Malta is obviously not possible to use the full tank (unless you spend the days driving), I was not asked but simply invoiced at the time of rental.I paid 87 euros (probably the cost per liter and an up charge) and I returned the car half full after driving for roughly 350 km, so I paid at least 40 euros more than real consumption.This is not a formal complaint since i realized after that it was stated in the contract but you should give option as done for all other rents "
