" While having a deal with the autoeurope, the Sixt counter staff at the Budapest airport was persistently proposing an upgrade (on the car category as well as insurance). He depicted my insurance contract as insufficient and went on drawing a dark scenario of large damages. Instead of a booked citroen c3, we received a suzuki with a minimal storage space - while traveling with a baggy, 2 children, and suitcases, the only option that the counter staff gave us was to upgrade our booking with an extra charge. While the Sixt's staff at the parking were very kind and helpful, the child seat they provided likely did not match the European safety standards and we also did not find a way to fix it in the car - even with the Sixt staff assistance. They eventually borrowed a car seat from other car rental provider that we could use. Finally, the car we received had automatic gear despite we ordering a manual. "

In the morning the agent was also late with the opening time. Autoeurope did not help at all, but was rather distructive, pointing out that I may not get my car early in the morning because it is another day. No rentals were possible between 1am and 8am, because normally USAVE was locked. In addition Autoeurope was claiming that USAVE was not obliged to wait fro me because the opening hours are until 23:00. It is incredible that an agent dared to reply it. In the morning on 20 March I called the Usave office to ask for a shuttle to their office. At 09:00 I arrived at the Usave office to pick up a car. The first car they wanted to give me had a big crack on the windscreen (20 cm). I refused to take that car because of safety. They give me a minivan (Citroen Traveler, Diesel) which was available. I accepted it as I was in time constrain to reach my destination 200km away before lunch time (business). Next day I came back to drop off the vehicle. On my way back, only 60 km left to drive to the Usave Office but the vehicle indicated on the dashboard to refill the Ad blue tank otherwise the engine will be shut down. So, I stopped and refilled the Adblue tank which was difficult to find because no one told me at Usave that the car needs Adblue (Usave service should take care of it). So all in all, it was a big disappointment with this rental and I had additional cost because of the unprofessional service. I would like that Autoeurope to reimburse the additional expenses to me. I ordered the luxury van so my wife with back problems could sit comfortably in a comfortable car seat rather than a seat like a seat in a truck that could not be leaned. " When returning the car, I informed the rental company that there has been a minor accident and there is a small damage on the rear bumper. They obtained a "neutral expert opinion" concerning the cost of reparation, which resulted in an exhorbitant amount (for a very small paint repair), just above the excess amount. The opinion was provided in German language, which was not a language used in the contract, nor in the country of pick-up and the company offered to translate it for another 60 Euros. The company, based on the expert opinion, charged me with the full excess amount of 800.- Euros, plus handling fee. I asked them to revise this amount, given the very high labour cost assumed in the opinion, (cca 3 times normal labour costs in Hungarian garages), but they refused to even consider it. I consider this course of action as a rip-off, and I doubt it very much that the rear bumper will indeed be repainted by the rental company for the very small paint damage on it. "

The woman at the counter was not very friendly and kept trying to upsell features, a bigger car, insurance, etc. The car wasn't ready and I had to wait around an hour and keep asking her its status, when she could see I was sitting on the other side of the hall and could easily have waved me over. The dropoff was super easy and everything else about the car was great. I was a little bummed i was not allowed to take the car into Bosnia, which meant getting to Dubrovnik required another two hours of travel and a ferry. "

" Getting the car was fine. But dropoff was very difficult. The airport gave us what they said was a map for the dropoff. But it turned out not to be a map at all, only to have an address for a gas station near where the drop off used to be in Budapest. There was not even an address for the dropoff on the sheet. We tried calling the service number a few times with no answer and guessed at an address (which was very far from the center of town). When we found the office, there were no instructions for drop off. This time the phone service answered but gave us mistaken instructions for the drop off (they said the key box was labelled -- it was not and was hard to find). I would like some kind of credit back or compensation for the frustration and difficulty. "

" Seems to me that Global - Megadrive - BuchBinder are making more money from overcharging/double charging small car damages that they will never actually fix, compared to their normal rental business. The whole procedure is designed to make you get the car without paying attention to every little detail and then overcharge you for damages that are minor, probably pre-existed that will never actually be fixed. I use rental cars in Europe for more than 25 years, this was definitely my worst experience. "
" Car class was mentioned as Opel Astra or Similar, we got a Dacia Logan MCV 1.0. Similar only sizewise. Quality and engine inadequate. (We expected that to be frank.) The most serious problem is that we were charged for almost 600 euros for a scratch on the plastic wheel-cup and a scratch on the front screen (stone-chip they called it), that we are not even convinced that we did. When we took the car we noticed two scratched wheel-cups that were not listed on the "known" damages of the car, but they said they only list damages and scratches on the main body of the car, so we did not pay attention to any further damages. When we returned the car they said the third wheel-cup and a small scratch on the front screen were "new damages" and charged our credit card with almost 600 euros, that we consider way too much. We expressed out complaints and still waiting for an answer that will probably never come. "

When I tried to contact Auto Europe based on the helpline nos mentioned on my voucher, I got connected to the US service center and they said that I'd have to speak to the German service center since it was Europe. About 40 mins into the trip, we got onto the motorway, the car wasn' stable with possibly something wrong with the alignment. We called Buchbinder to replace the car but they insisted without checking that there is nothing wrong with the car. Ultimately they asked us to go the budapes airport,an hour in the opposite direction. After reaching there, they gave us a Volkswagen Caravelle as a replacement, which didn't have the rear ac working "
