" Horrible experience that caused me grief on my holiday and incurred unnecessary expenses in lost tour, extra payment for gas and wasted a full day of my holiday. The car was old and the battery died soon after. I drove the car to the hotel. Hertz sent a contractor to jump start the car and would charged 750 peso (40 euro) from my deposit. We were to visit the Pyramid of the Sun and made reservations for that. We ended up waiting 3 hours for the jump start then drive to another hertz location to exchange for another car. We drove a total of 19 km from the pickup airport but they insist that we used over 10 litres of gas and would charge us 450 peso (24 euro). We fought for half hour and ended up taking the broken car to a gas station to fill the fast to the same level as shown on the petro gauge as we took it out which cost probably 75 peso (4 euro). We insist the gauge is wrong and demanded that we should pay base on the mileage and gas consumption. A normal 4x4 should take no more than 2 litres to travel 19 km. The distance from the airport to the hotel is only 12 km and the other 7 km is to drive to their shop to change car! We struggle from 7 am to 12:30 pm and lost our tickets to the Pyramid tour and wasted over half days to sort out a dead battery problem. They don't look after their fleet and let the customers drive the car to the ground then repair at the customers time and inconvenience plus wanting to charge for the repair. I ALSO purchased full bumper to bumper insurance but was told I still have to leave a deposit and liable for any damage or theft and should that happens, I have to claim whatever they charge from AutoEurope. They want to sell their additional insurance to me using scare tactics. "

" 15.03 I booked a car with your company with full insurance coverage for 65.36 USD. Voucher number EU 17887198-1. HERTZ reservation number 04R3S8. " Hertz at Cancun Airport is a rip-off. They want just more money and charge you some extra stuff and they refuse to give you the car if you don't agree with it. Firstly, you go in line to get to the person who will prepare the papers and get you your key. You wait very long, but in this time there is a women walking around offering premium service for app. 20 USD - if you pay it, you'll get priority treatment. Then they try to sell you some additional insurances that are quite expensive. Moreover, they charge 12 USD/day for a children seat. If I would know this in advance, I'd buy a seat and it would be cheaper at the end. Additionaly, the children seat was very dirty and somehow broken. "

" At the counter the guy wanted desperately to sell the insurance to us. Rent of a car costed 230 eur and the offered insurance cost was 700 eur. On the brochure (and in my rental conditions from the web) was written that the insurance is included. But the worker repeatedly showed me the brochure (where it was already repeatedly lined by pencil) that i have only insurance for the car collision but not the civilian damage). So the all hand over took more than an hour. It was already 11 pm and we had been flying 19 hours. Once the kids started to cry as there was nowhere to sit then he finally handed over the car. I asked do we return car to the same location and how long does it takes to return he answered that to the same location and return takes about an hour. As it turned out the return was in different location and it took 5 minutes. Nobody asked nothing and documents were signed very quickly. I understand that he wanted to sell me an extra service but the price was too enormous. Had it been 100 eurs I wouldn't doubted. "

" I paid online €18, with the expected extra costs of ca. €80 in loco for dropping off at another location. Including a full tank we estimated €150. In the end we had to pay locally €290 euro AND the €18 on the Europcar platform. TOTAL SCAM and RIP-OFF! There were a lot of hidden costs not mentioned on the Euope car portal. Really bad experience. " I am very disappointed and I feel cheated by the practices of Hertz. When I collected my vehicle, the agent informed me that it would be cheaper for me if I got Hertz to refill the tank upon return at around $18 instead of $22 per litre, which is what petrol stations normally charge. The agent was very pushy about this but I told him I wasn't interested in this offer since I first wanted to verify he was telling the truth about the price difference. I later discovered that there was indeed a price difference between what Hertz offered and what was the current price at petrol stations and I therefore decided to return the car with a half full tank to take advantage of this offer. Only when I checked out was I actually informed that this price was only applied when charging me for a full tank, which ended up costing me much more than what I would have paid on the street. These sort of practices are absolutely unacceptable and I demand this to be rectified. Hertz did not explain to me the details of this offer when I picked up the car and I feel they took advantage of my tiredness after a 18 hour journey from Amsterdam to Mexico. I await your response to this scam. "

It turned out the 'full' insurance means 90% coverage. So when we picked up the car the pick-up lady confirmed with us that we had the full insurance. She never ever mentioned any of the costs she was adding to out contract so we did not expect any extra costs. They just made us sigh the form. At drop-of, the very same day, the drop of clerk told me the amount we had to pay extra for the insurance! We tried to argue that we had full insurance with the reservation but since we signed their form Hertz told us we agreed to these costs by signing their form! No costs were mentioned or agreed on at pick-up so we were very surprised. I am very disappointed with this Hertz practice. They cannot make you sign a contract without mentioning the costs and this is what they did. This is not legal practice and will file an official complaint. "

Also fortunately I have changed my reservation before to leave, because in the previous one I should take the car in Mexico City and leave it in Cancun for the price of 25 usd (you said). " wonderful professional service thanks during booking in Europe it is more complicated reaching the agent once you are in travel status as diffetent people deal with your problem. They insist per email on calling them by phone which from overseas is very costly. We had an issue with Hertz as their phone lines were down and wanted Auto Europe to reach them for us via email this seemed impossible for Auto Europe . Seems your email system is not very flexible "
