Although ABR rent office in Pula airport was open and is were there regular working times, they wanted to charge me roughly 250,- EUR extra on top of a 34,- EUR car reservation because I showed up 'late'. I told them, this is unacceptable and this is a scam, but they told me these are the company rules. I mean that a flight is delayed it can always happen, this happens all the time. And when I indicate an approximate time when to pick up the car it's a best guess if everything works fine. If this approximate pickup time is within their regular working hours a later pickup should be always possible without any extra fees. I mean the person from ABC rental could not even explain me what type or why this extra charge of roughly 250,- EUR is charged. They have not logical reason why extra service fees are being charged and just try to scam tourists, you can try 1 out of ten tourist is maybe excepting this. So I ended up refusing the charge, refusing the whole rental of 34,- EUR and lost this money and had on a short term basis rent with another car rental. What we learn? always take big car rental chains, no 'no name' rentals and never ever ABC rent. While this was a very inexpensive rental car, and good value for money, it was a very old vehicle, a manual-transmission Citroen Elysee with over 100,000 miles (166,000 km) on the odometer and lots of exterior paint chips and scratches. After driving for about 30 minutes, there was a high-pitched squeaking sound from the rear right area of the car, which sounded like a bad wheel-bearing or possibly a rear differential problem. I did not have any serious problems driving the car, but I did drive very cautiously after the squeaking sound developed. Upon returning the car, I informed the Green Motion employee of the problem I experienced, and he listened to my concern and said that they would "check it out" to see what the issue was. My honest opinion is that this vehicle was really not safe enough to rent out to a member of the public. I must say that I did not feel uncomfortable driving the car, but it was definitely oldest and the worst condition of a rental car that I have ever had. My opinion is that Green Motion should not have such a vehicle in its rental fleet. "

" Your site did well. Quite easy to choose and compare the cars. The prices are fair. The main downside is the upfront payment. It makes one stuck with the rental company, even if they provide a very poor service. Having an option to pay at the pick up would be nice. "
" 1) No one was at pick up location at the scheduled time. Had to wait for more than an hour outside. 2)I wasn't able to reach them using the phone number from the voucher. 3)Diners cards advertised as accepted, but my card didn't work with the provided terminal (called the bank, no problems on my side). Had to find another card for the deposit, which was an inconvenience. 4)Didn't get the copy of the contract. They couldn't print it. Promised to send it to my email, but never did. Even after I called them the next day. 5)The car was extremely dirty, full of garbage from the previous renter. I had to clean it myself. 6) Winter tires were advertised and stated in the voucher, but not equipped. Had to take a lot of stress driving through some snow on a highway, which got very slippery. Almost got stuck on a slight uphill section of the road that got about 1cm of snow. As a compensation for the inconvenience during pick up and for the dirty car, I received an extra 2 hours on top of the return time (useless for me) and an "upgraded" car VW T-Roc. Which to be honest, it is not necessarily an upgrade over the Škoda Octavia, plus it was the only car they had at the location anyway. "

" I always use AutoEurope to book my vehicles and add extra insurance. It pains me however that this agency (and pretty much all other rental companies) continue to push their own insurance packages. In a past rental experience with SixT, the desk rep went as far to say that he wouldn't give me the car unless I took out their insurance. After I said I would immediately call AutoEurope to sort it out, he then backed down. I'd ask that AutoEurope better vet these unscrupulous companies and not deal with them to make it easier for customers. "
" Upon arrival at the Dubrovnik office, I was told the vehicle I reserved was not available and was "upgraded" to an SUV at no additional cost. It turned out to be an agency vehicle with large ORYX Rental Car logo decals on all 4 sides of the vehicle. I booked a one-way trip so this vehicle was likely slated for return to Zagreb. I was travelling to Slovenia as well and didn't want the added attention of driving a rental from a different country. The rep said they had no other vehicles available unless I could wait until the next day (which of course I couldn't). Also, the desk rep gave me registration documents for a different vehicle which the lot rep thankfully discovered and fixed this before we drove off. The car had a few dings and scratches on it and it looks like it hadn't been washed (didn't matter since it rained the next few days). Apart from that, the car ran fine and the return process was quick and easy. "

The damages were only partially noted on the vehicle description (with the risk of additional damage claims!), and there was no formal hand-over possible with the staff checking the additional damages. We had to take pictures and video's before leaving the airport to be sure to have some proof. Again, when dropping off the car, there was no staff present at the airport to check the condition of the car. Three people working and not one of them at either service station? The woman who helped us was very rude and seemingly bothered but us being there. Made multiple comments about me requesting an automatic vehicle. Tried to convince me to take a manual instead because it was "bigger and better". Spent the better part of 90 minutes to pick up our vehicle which wasted our only night in Zagreb. We were a little late dropping off the car and in Dubrovnik so I called ahead to let Carwiz know we were running behind. The man on the phone kept arguing with me about "crossing borders" and that if I crossed a border without telling Carwiz they would charge me. Come to find out, he had the wrong reservation pulled up and was arguing with me for no reason. I tried to be proactive and wish I had never called. The man who helped me with dropping off the car was very kind and efficient. Overall, awful experience. I've rented cars many times in Europe and never had an experience like this. At 10.45PM (I can document the call) I did it, and NO ONE answered. I was holding at the phone more that 15 minutes before giving up. However when we arrived at the counter they gave us Renaut "Capture " which is nowhere close to SUV compact class. That way I was left without a chance to dispute any damage if they had found any and without a chance to use my 3rd party insurance in that case. It's great they were honest and nothing was claimed. When I returned car, I topped up tank at last filling station before airport (2-3 km), in fact to tank overflowing. Still after I had returned car, Goldcar claimed car was not full and charged for short fuel and extra refuelling fee for not returning car with full tank. When adding up fuel I filled and distance driven, the apparent fuel consumption is 10 lit/100 km, which is twice Peugeot's consumption rating (5 lit/100 km) for this type car (????). 3. When I returned the car, I forgot my personal GPS in the car. Goldcar confirmed it was found in the car, but they could not send it to me. I called the customer service of autoeurope to change the name of the driver, they informed me that it was not possible to make ANY changes to the booking at all. All changes had to be made at least 48 hours prior to pick-up. According to Air rent a car in Croatia, the company that provided the car, it was totally impossible to make a deposit on a debit card, which is something I have done several times before. The "solution" offered to us by Air was to pay a full insurance with them. In that way we would not have to put down a deposit at all. In order for us to be able to pick up the car at all we therefore had to pay 120 euros for a second insurance for a three day rent, in addition to the full insurance we already paid to Auto Europe. According to Air the full insurance with auto Europe was not a full insurance at all. Either way we ended up paying for full insurance twice. To be fair an e-mail from Auto Europe stated that the credit card had to be in the name of the driver. The couple in question was denying that the scratch was made by them. They had many photos of the car taken on the first day of rental to prove their innocence. The couple also pointed out that there were many online reviews describing similar incidents, which really makes you doubt Carwiz honesty. This resulted in us deciding to pay additional 20eur/day for extra insurance so that we would not face the similar issue upon returning of the car. We indeed did not have problems upon the return, however, the overall rental cost was significantly higher with the additional insurance. Also, our car was cleaned, superficially, but was still smelly inside and somewhat dirty in many spots. We really would not recommend this rental company to others. "

How many people don't they rip off, knowing that 1- people are pressed for time at the airport 2- the guy at drop off is 2meters tall and has arms as big as chimney pipes. I asked her about the cost and time for traveling from the airport to downtown and she told us that there is nothing they can do for us. However, I was still responsible for the car until the next morning if anything happens to the vehicle. This was not a problem as I had a full coverage package but if you don't, this is risky. " It would have been better to book and agree on the car rental conditions directly with Avantcar, ie. without Auto Europe intermediation. The reason is that I had selected at car rental booking, and early payment with Auto Europe a more expensive package which had to cover full car insurance. However, at Avantcar pick-up, they explained to me that the over charge does not go to them, but only as commission to Auto Europe: this means it would have been just the same for them if had chosen the option without extra insurance. Even with the extra package I had purchased, I would have been obliged to block my credit card for 1000 EUR to cover possible damages with the car; the other option would have been to pay 20 EUR / day additionally as full insurance, which I finally did. In such way my card was blocked only for 200 EUR to cover possible penalties etc. "

Crossing border is 77 EUR in other rent'a'car 40-50, insurance is 45 EUR (for Škoda Superb), but they do not cover anything even if you are not guilty (at least the told you so) without that insurance. There is just one insurance possible, 100% full insurance for huge amount of money. Car was like it came from 2nd World War, smashed on several places on each 4 sides (and seller said "it is not my problem that car is in that condition"), but still they "find" me two new damage between those 50 previous damages. Luckily I had insurance, but still procedure takes long time. NEVER AGAIN. And I rent car at least 40 times per year. "

" They charged a ridiculous €75 for crossing the border (which you have to do to get to Dubrovnik and is just an easy cashgrab). When we picked up the car the card machine wasn't working. They also wanted us to pay in kuna's (we didn't have enough euros on us) with a rate of 7.67 per euro. The rate was 7.37 at the bank at that point, so that rate of 7.67 is excessively high. When dropping the car off, we couldn't split the bill between euros and kuna's. We later also learned that some other company's don't have the €75 border crossing fee. "

After calling the office, someone came to pick us up 10 mins later. We were kept waiting in an entrance of a very small and dirty office. At first we thought there are staff available but not paying any attention to us but we found out it is a shared office with other company. Unfortunately the staff who handled our paperwork was not very professional. The worst was the drop off. We were informed that the office will be open from 7am but no one was there. The address of the office was not where the actual office was in the gps so we had difficulties finding the place for drop off as well. "

" We purposely selected Carwiz over other rental firms because they were advertised on the Auto Europe site to have a facility in the airport terminal that did not require a shuttle. This was important to us since we were travelling with a toddler and a baby and had to carry car seats, a pram and extra baggage for them. We were very disappointed upon arrival to find that the service was not in the airport - having to be driven to and from the Carwiz lot made the pick-up and return of the vehicle slower and much more stressful than was necessary. "

" We had a puncture which we got fixed. However the puncture happened again or we got a second puncture. We had to get a mechanic to change the spare wheel as we could not locate the toolkit. On receiveing the van we were not shown where the toolkit is located - even if there was a toolkit.
Then when we returned the car and filled in the incident report we were charged an excessive amount for the repair of the puncture (750,00HRK)

" We had a great experience on pick up in Zagreb, everyone was very helpful. No issues at this point. However, dropping the car in Split was not the same. We showed up Saturday evening to drop the car early as we had a tour going out early morning on Sunday. When we arrived at the store 6pm near the radisson hotel no one was inside and the shop was locked despite its opening hours till 7 pm. Luckily we were able to use a phone at the nearby hotel to call and someone came over. The agent was new to the job, didn't appear to be wearing any sort of I'd badge or fleet uniform on arrival. He viewed the car and dropped us off. But he didn't collect our one way payment which we had mentioned before he drove us back to our apartment nor was he willing to provide us documentation on the car condition. We spoke to his boss Igor who informed us he would take the payment from the blocked amount and send us an email receipt the next day. We didn't hear anything the next day and on Monday around lunchtime we called. Igor informed us he couldn't take the payment from the block, as the full card number had not been put on the account so we then had to provide our credit card over the phone and he processed the payment. I've rented many cars in different countries and never have I not had the payment taken and paperwork completed when returning the car. While we would recommend this agency again, dealing with returning the car in Split was frustrating as we spent part of our last morning in Croatia making sure this was solved. "

We had to buy an expensive green card (84,- EUR) for crossing the boarder to Serbia Montenegro, but nobody was checking the card on the boarder (3 times) and we heart that the green card was much cheaper at other rental car provider and even at the boarder. Fleet told me that if I get insurance any other than their, they will have to freeze more than ?1000 on my card, and this sum comes back in ~10 days after the car is returned. Additionally, if an insured accident takes place, I will have to cover all expenses and clarify all the issues with Auto Europe later. Compare this to conditions one can get buying insurance from Fleet directly: sum frozen on credit card is ?40, and if an insured accident takes place the insurance covers all the expenses (except franchise). If I'd knew these differences I'd never get insurance from Auto Europe. To avoid blocking ?1000 on my card I had to get second insurance from Fleet. Very disappointed. "

I refused it because I already purchased insurance from autoeurope.eu The mandatory security deposit (via credit card) for renting Renault Trafic (without paying full casco insurance to ORYX rent-a-car company) was 16000 HRK (around 2140 EUR), more than 7 times higher than the rental price itself (2227 HRK or 298 EUR)! This is something that should be available as the information in the first place when choosing the rent-a-car company! "

" I wouldn't recommend FLEET in Croatia. The personal of this company are a lot scrupulous and they try to get money from everything. I drove really carefully and gave back the car with perfect conditions but they tried to charge me for the minimum scratch. I didn't want to pay for a scratch that it was impossible to see. In fact, it didn't exist. Wathever, they penalised 45 euros aproximatelly (one day) to give back the car 3 hours later. They penalise for everything. Since I rent a car, this has been the worst experience. "

I t was a great car in a very good condition. The agency checked the car carefully before I left. There was also no problem to give it back early in the morning by using the drop off box. They blocked a 1000 Euros on my credit card, but as I have not heard anything of Avant car so far, I think they will have taken the blocking out. I treated the car very carefully though. ("winterization" - ridiculous) - Insurances always pop up additionally - even if I booked full waiver on your site, I am requested to book the same again in the actual rental locations. - Three months later I got 3 (!) times charged for alleged police tickets, which I can not know because of "data protection" (again ridiculous) - and what a surprise: I drive a car every day, no tickets in Germany, Rumania, Hungary, etc, but in Italy on a 4 day rental I get suddenly 3 tickets.... judge for yourself...
