Vienna West Train Station is a 19th century classical building designed by architect Moritz Löhr. It opened in 1858 and is today a protected listed building of significant cultural value. Its roof is of timber construction and covers 4 distinct sections of the station. More recently, an extension was added to the terminal building allowing for the integration of a shopping centre. Here local office workers, visitors and passengers can enjoy plenty of shops, eateries, restaurants and coffee houses.
As one of the main entrance points into the city, a car rental at Vienna West Train Station is often the best choice. Being such a major transport hub means that many car rental suppliers can be found in or around the station - for example in nearby Felberstraße. Drop-off and collection points are conveniently located adjacent to the train station terminal, in the car park. Before you arrive at the office, make sure you have all your documents ready. Reaching Vienna West Train Station, like with Vienna Central Train Station, is simple with many options available. You can drive to and from the station with your car rental at Vienna West Train Station as there is ample parking and an entrance from the car park on Felberstraße and Mariahilfer Straße. The station is also exceptionally integrated with the local public transport network, which makes getting to and from this train station very simple and quick.
Two U-Bahn metro stations are integrated here and can be reached by an underpass directly from the main train station terminal. Here you can board the U3 and U6 metro lines - with the U3 being the fastest option for reaching central Vienna from Westbahnhof. A bus station is located outside the train terminal and offers bus service 1187 and 360. In addition, an airport bus service is available.
In the same area you can board tram lines 5, 6, 9 and 18. They are located above the Gürtel ring-road. Tram lines 52 and 60 are also within walking distance from the train station main entrance. Lastly, a taxi rank is located in front of the main train terminal building on the Europaplatz. We advise always speaking with the driver about estimated costs before setting off.
Vienna is carved up into different districts and numbered accordingly. In general, many districts have adopted a short-stay parking policy. This means that you must purchase a parking ticket during the hours of operation. As each district employs different times of operation, we highly advise reading the road signs to confirm timings. Please note, that in some more central districts even weekends and public holidays apply with parking restrictions. Taking note is especially important when you rent a car at Vienna West Train Station so as not to get a fine.
In the city centre, the norm is a maximum 2-hour stay for parking during Monday to Thursday, 09:00 until 22:00, and Friday 09:00 until 00:00. Paying for parking is simple, with many local newsagents and metro stations ticket machines selling parking tickets. There are also many city parking garages available. These are secure and conveniently located, with the more popular one being at Museumplatz. Lastly, a park-&-ride scheme is in operation where you park your vehicle on the outskirts of the city and catch public transport into town. This option is by far the cheapest and sometimes most convenient.
