Where to pick up my car rental at Vienna Airport

The airport has a dedicated car rental centre located at level 0 of the multi-storey car park 4. There is a walkway from arrivals directly to this car park. For a quick and efficient process, have your ID, driving licence (including an international driving licence, if required) and your car rental voucher. A credit card under the main driver’s name is also required for deposit purposes.

Terminals

This airport consists of four terminals that are all next to each other. These are appropriately named terminal 1, 2, 3 and 1A. Terminal 1, 2 and 3 are linked via five concourses that in turn link to the central arrivals hall - T3. Terminal 1 hosts mainly Oneworld and SkyTeam airlines, including Turkish Airways. Terminal 1A handles check-in facilities for low-cost airlines. Terminal 3 is the busiest and hosts the national carrier Austrian Airways and Star Alliance members. It also hosts ANA,Amierates, ElAl, Korean Air, Royal Jordanian, Thai Airways and Qatar Airways.

Airport Facilities

As a modern airport it has all the necessary amenities and facilities for a pleasant, safe and secure journey. All the necessary infrastructure is provided, check-in desks, security, departure lounges, arrival hall, luggage reclaim belts, etc. There are ample shopping opportunities throughout the airport - Heinemann Duty-free stores sell everything from perfumes to spirits and beauty products. Other smaller stores sell gifts, souvenirs and games. For those who wish to eat or drink, you’ll find Starbucks, Jamie Oliver Restaurant, Burger King, McDonalds and many other smaller chains.

How to get to and from Vienna Airport

If you have opted for a car rental at Vienna Airport, then you have opted for a simple way to travel. Reaching the airport is simple by car - taking only 20-minutes to Vienna city centre. Returning your vehicle is straightforward. Simply take the A4 motorway towards the airport, exiting at junction 13. Then follow the signs to the main terminal. From Bratislava it is also easy to reach the airport by car. Take the A6 (Nord-Ostautobahn) and then the A4 (Ostautobahn) which leads you to the airport. The total distance is 65kms and should take around 45-minutes by car.

The airport is well connected via public transport links. ÖBB Railjet, bus and a rapid transit railway all link to the airport and take around 16-minutes. The City Airport Train is by far the fastest way to reach the airport from the city centre. Another option is the local S-Bahn trains. The main train terminus is located in central Vienna, within walking distance from St. Stephan’s Cathedral. The ‘Postbus Service’ connects all the city transport networks to each other - trains, buses and metro services. Train services run every 30-minutes to the airport and bus services every 20-minutes.

Parking tips

For those who are driving to the airport, or need to park their car rental at Vienna Airport, there are two multi-storey car parks onsite. Car park 3 is primarily used for departures and links to Terminal 1 and 1a. Car park 4 is primarily used for passengers using Terminal 3. A short-stay car park K3 is provided and is located outside the arrivals hall. Lastly, there is car park C which links to the terminals via a footpath and takes around 10-minutes.

Those looking for parking in Vienna need to take some rules into consideration. Parking tickets are required from Monday to Saturday between 9am-10pm. The maximum stay is 2-hours. In Stadthallen district you must also pay a surcharge to park between 6pm and 11pm. This doesn’t apply to the months of July and August. Short-stay parking vouchers are available and can be bought from newsagents, petrol stations, railway stations and the Vienna public transport offices.

Private car parks exist and operate throughout the city. Although expensive, they are well located, secure and often near tourist attractions. A cheaper alternative if you do not wish to drive into the centre is the Park-&-Ride network. This allows you to park in designated areas outside the city and take the local public transport into town. There is a discount in the parking for those who purchase a tram or metro ticket.
