Car Hire at Prague Train Station - Visiting Prague in Style

Situated a short stroll from the city centre, Prague Train Station is the main transport facility for the Czech capital. Inaugurated in the second half of the 19th century, it is housed inside a handsome building divided into several sections with a full complement of on-site services available to travellers. Officially called Praha Hlavni Nadrazi (which simply translates to Prague Main Railway Station), it is the country's busiest railway hub and today caters for over 50 million passengers each year. Besides regular local services to numerous Czech cities such as Brno, Plzeň, České Budějovice and Olomouc, it provides regular direct connections to several key destinations in the neighbouring countries of Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Germany and beyond.

Prague is a tourism treasure trove with a wealth of attractions to be found in a relatively compact area. Start with a stroll across Charles Bridge, a Gothic masterpiece dating from the mid-14th century before photographing the city's old Town Hall with its world-famous Astronomical Clock, the world's oldest still in existence. And no sightseeing tour of Prague is complete without a visit to Prague Castle situated high on a hill overlooking the city centre. With a car rental from Prague Train Station you'll have the whole of the city at your disposal as well as the pick of the best day-trip excursions, such as a visit to Kutná Hora, a charming town with many unique attractions in the Central Bohemian Region some 80 kilometres from the capital.

    Station Information

Notable for its striking architecture, Prague Train Station has a long and fascinating history. It first opened in 1871 as Franz Josef Station (after Franz Joseph I of Austria) and was later modified by the famous Czech architect Josef Fanta in the early 20th century. Major improvements and extension work took place in the 1970s with the addition of a new terminal building, metro station and adjacent car park. Today the station has 8 platforms numbered 1-8 starting on the west side close to the main entrance, which is just off the city centre.

Where to pick up a car rental at Prague Train Station

Several international companies offer car hire at Prague Train Station, including Budget, Enterprise and Sixt. Most of the vehicle rental suppliers are located either on the station premises (such as Budget and Sixt) or close to the main entrance with the main pick-up/drop-off point situated in a large on-site car park. It's important to make sure that you have all the necessary documents with you when you arrive to collect your vehicle, including your car hire voucher, credit card (in the main driver's name), passport and a valid driving licence.

    Parking tips

Prague has plenty of parking options for people choosing to rent a car at Prague Train Station and visit all the main tourist attractions. Street parking is widely available but make sure you avoid the Blue Zones which are strictly for residents and businesses. Prague's Orange Zones offer short-term paid parking for visitors and Purple Zones provide 24-hour paid parking options for visitors (payment for both zones can be made using a parking meter or through an app). Garage parking is plentiful in and around the city centre with Rudolfinum Parking Garage (on Náměstí Jana Palacha) open 24/7 and Parking Centrum (entrance on Wilsonova Street and also open 24/7) being two of the inner city's largest car parks. A popular option for tourists are the many P+R (park and ride) car parks where you can leave your vehicle for a small fee and use public transport to see the top sights.
