Where to pick up a car rental at Paris CDG Airport

Most of the check-in counters for car rental at Paris CDG are located in the Arrivals area of the main passenger terminals, namely Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. There are also a few counters in Terminal 3 but an airport bus is on hand to shuttle customers to Terminals 1 and 2 when necessary. The offices are generally open from the first in the morning to the last flight at night. Before arriving to collect your vehicle, it's always a good idea to have all the documents for your trip ready to hand, including your passport, driving licence, credit card (in the main driver's name) and any pre-purchased insurance.

Terminals

Charles de Gaulle Airport is divided into three main terminals, Terminal 1, Terminal 2 (divided into seven sections: A, B, C, D, E, F and G) and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 is the oldest and is located opposite both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Originally built to serve Air France exclusively, Terminal 2 has been expanded to serve other airlines with its sub-terminals. Nowadays, Terminal 3 is mainly dedicated to low-cost airlines and summer charter flights serving mostly holiday destinations. Although there are departure and arrival areas in the various terminals, Terminal 1 is where the airport's main services and facilities are located, such as the check-in counters and baggage reclaim. This terminal is spread across 7 floors, each dedicated to a specific function. The first floor is an operational area where no passengers circulate, the second is where you'll find shops, restaurants and the various transport options for your onward journey. The third floor houses most of the check-in desks, while the ever-popular Duty-free shops are situated on the fourth floor, with baggage-reclaim located on the fifth floor. The remaining floors are used as car parks. The connection between the different terminals is provided by the CDGVAL shuttle bus service.

How to get to and from Paris CDG Airport

You can collect your car rental at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport or pick it up in the centre of Paris by using the city's excellent public transport network. All of the airport's terminals are served by a free system that links them in just a few minutes. Roissybus runs non-stop services to and from the centre of Paris departing at terminals 1 and 2. Le Bus Direct is the ideal option for those wishing to go to the Eiffel Tower, Place de l'Étoile, Paris Orly airport or Paris train stations such as Gare de Montparnasse and Gare de Lyon. Charles de Gaulle Airport is also served by the RER, with journeys to the centre of Paris and to other major French cities such as Nice and Marseille or to some neighbouring countries. Buses 350 and 351 also operate to and from Paris city centre, along with the night buses Noctilien N140 and N143. Take the Magical Shuttle for Disneyland and the RER B suburban trains for Paris which stop at Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 train station, with TGV mainline services departing from Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 station. You can also take a taxi from the ground floor in the Arrivals Hall, but this service tends to be more expensive. If you're travelling by car, the best way to get to the city is via the Autoroute A1, which links Paris to Lille.

Parking Tips

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport has plenty of parking options to suit everyone’s needs at all three terminals with short-term, long-term and pick-up/drop-off possibilities available 24/7.Parking at the airport is easy and very accessible, with car parks located near each of the terminals and open 24 hours a day if you need a place to park your car rental at Paris CDG Airport. There are a few things you should consider when it comes to street parking in the centre of Paris, such as the fact that the prices increase as you get closer to the city centre and parking is paid for from Monday to Friday between 9am and 7pm. Parking metres don't accept cash, so you'll need the ‘Paris Carte’, which can be purchased at kiosks, a credit card or the ‘PaybyPhone’ application. Read the parking restrictions carefully and remember that parking is limited to a maximum of two hours. It may be easier to use one of the many underground car parks scattered around the city, which offer a variety of rates and, in some cases, the possibility of booking parking in advance.
